not sure if it is tradeskill related but my attempts haven't worked yet .. so curious what others have figured out.

The maps that came with the patch are just text files in the main eq directory under a folder called "Maps". I haven't tried creating my own, but I guess I assumed they'd be in the same format. Is that not the case?Inyidd Bullneck - Dorf Waryer - Morell-Thule

Yes, indeed the maps (or modifications you make to existing maps) are just plain text files.
I expect there is several bright people out there who are currently developing programs to manipulate the maps, and draw them outside EQ. Then place them in the maps directory (only trick is the naming of the files).
I would hope that folks could come up with maps with a layer of the "Named Camps"... for different zones. So instead of having to say "Where is Camp 6R?"... open up your map, and scroll around and there is the label "Camp 6R". And run right over to it.
But be prepared for lot of potential "Bogus" maps when that happens. I can see labels like "Easy Camp (Lvl 40-45)" at the Village in Velks.Brother Krazick Bloodyscales 65th Trial Scaley Transcendent

hmmm will have to check that program out when i get home, if i can view them quickly then it wouldn't be hard to edit the text file to make changes IMO ... tho if i can get the program working that will export a map from the actual zone file that would be even better,
i am sure in a few more weeks to a month there will be sites up all over the place that will have the files out for each zone ... that have great detail ... right now most of the people that can access the zones are still exploring them ... i know i am lol .... keeping everything that may have a use for a tradeskill .... on the way got a few decent drops ...***************

Turning a zonefile into a map won't be easy.
A map is an abstraction of the zone geometry, simplified. Doing that automatically is hard.
One's best bet would be hooking a zone file viewer up with a map editor. Being able to trace over the zone geometry as you lay out your map would be quite useful.--
