  • What is RNG

Sorry, probably a super noobish quest, but what is RNG? i keep seeing people mentioning it.
I dont know HTML, so consequently this is a very boring signature...enjoy!

RNG stands for the Random Number Generator. The Random Number Generator (RNG) is the "thing" (if you call it that), more like "being" or "entity" that decides whether you get a skillup or not, and whether you get a success or not when you attempt a tradeskill combine.

As it's name implies, it's a VERY Random thing, though some people seem to have some patterns and methods figured out. All in all, the RNG can be your best friend, or your worst enemy...

That one got me for a few weeks... hehe, finally saw someone spell it out so never had to ask the 'newb' question

      Don't feel bad.

      It is: Rangers Never Group

I don't know what it has to do with tradeskills, guess it is just a sad state of affairs .

      Or...

I could have kissed Verant the day they put in item links.

If I saw another item acronym that I couldn't figure out I was going to scream!

Naturally that was after my monk got his SCHW, passed on an FBSS, quested for his QBOH and RotLC... but still dreams of a T-staff and a PSC, and someday wants the QBON.

Now everyone just links what they are selling, so I can check out the stats and know if I want it.

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause of the leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

I had to go back and make sure this was already in the FAQ forum (it was).

I started up a "Common Abbreviations" listing in the FAQ forum. If you can think of other common abbreviations that should go in it, please let me know.

You'll find the current list at: http://mboards.eqtraders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=37

I don't know how detailed you want that list, but in the brewing forum

                  QAT (Qeynos Afternoon Tea)

                  and

                  GLM (Grobb Liquidized Meat)

are both very common. Wouldn't have mentioned it but you do have MTP listed.

That Surefall Ranger Trail Drink or whatever is sometimes abbreviated, and I get lost on that one so I don't know if it needs to be in there, hehehe.

Well this would be a good place to start with if someone could. I know the first two anyway, but not the others.

SCHW=Silver Chitten Hand Wraps, a haste item
FBSS=Flowing Black Silk Sash, another haste item
ROFLMAO=Rolling On the Floor Laughing My Arse Off
                    BFT in fletching=Blessed Faydark Thunderbolt
Can't think of any other tradeskill ones right off.

                      QAT (Qeynos Afternoon Tea)
                      /giggle

                      That sounds funny. =)

Abbreviations are certainly silly. I got a tell on my seller mule the other day asking if I would take trades for my "CoS". I said "what do you have in mind?" as I was scrolling through my trader window trying to figure out what he was asking about. First, I thought he was talking about Circlet of the Invoker, but then, hey! that's CoI! So I asked him

me "um, not to sound silly, but what's CoS?"
                      him "Circlet of Shadows"
                      /giggle
me "I don't have a Circlet of Shadows - I have Circlet of the Invoker"
                      him "oh...my mistake"

Almost made a trade on something I don't even have!

Imrahil, those aren't tradeskill related, and would be useless on this forum.

QBOH is the Qeynos Badge of Honor, a fantastic quest that is a worn see invis necklace. I'd suggest it for anyone over level 30, check it out . It is the 4th badge.

QBON is the Qeynos Badge of Nobility... this is the 5th badge with upgraded stats. It requires a bit of faction work in JP, you should be able to bake decently for it, and you kinda have to start a war. (Though I don't think you have to participate)

T-staff is Tranquil Staff, PSC is Phase Spider Carapace, both great monk items I can't afford.

P.S. I laughed at QAT the first time I saw it too... but it really is common in Brewing circles .

                          Also non trade skill:
RotLC = Robe of the Lost Circle (part of the monk epic)

All in all, the RNG can be your best friend, or your worst enemy...
And the RNG randomly decides this when ever you use it.
