I heard that someone recently sold around 50 essences of something for over 100k any idea what type essence this is?

Extremely hard to say, the only "essences" that are worth anything like the 2k each you post implies are also so rare, getting 50 of them together (just to sell them) would be pretty much impossible.

Or ar least, vanishingly unlikely...

The ONLY "essence-like" item that immediatley springs to mind is Tae Ew Blood Vials, 2k each is actually on the low side from what I've seen, and a guild hunting in CT for a while could come up with 50 of them. Only proble with this is, they'd most likely keep them to smith Tae Ew Chain/shields/plate for themselves. So again, no real idea.

Actually, it was probably Emerald Essences. That's the result from 'sacrificing' yourself to a necro.....

Level 51 Necro Spell: Sacrifice (Kunark spell)
Uses one Emerald and....

This spell kills the targetted player and creates a stackable gem which is used for Infusion, Convergence, and Trucidation. The target of this spell cannot get exp back for this death threw any cleric or paladin res. The target of this spell must also be in the group, and higher then 45th level.

And to answer the next question;

Convergence: Level 53 Necro spell, effect: 93% Rez (700 mana and gem)

Infusion: Level 55 Necro spell, effect: +1000 mana (1 mana and gem)

Trucidation: LEvel 60 Necro spell, effect: 1100HP Lifetap (350 mana and gem)

Also, I know the Emerald is used in the VT Key quest. Other then that, I dont know what uses it has. Hope it helps.

no way essence emeralds would be worth 2k each either, especially in bulk. theyre more like 400pp tops i'd say.

if that rumor wasnt just a rumor, the item is probably some pop thing that we wouldnt be able to guess anyway

2k each would be quite cheap for some of the "planar bloods" used for imbuing raw diamonds.

Tae ew blood vials are actually extremely common now in CT. A level 65 group hunting in 4c can get a stack in one night easy. I've given away lots more than I've used.
