  • Wisdom Gear

I am currently a master at 5 tradeskills, my highest being brewing at 187 and fletching at 182. To progress further I really need to improve my wisdom (i'm a ranger). With the Wis gear I have (EDIT: and using MTP and QAT food and drink), and KEI on me, I can get it up to 165. What I need is some recomendations on some wisdom gear. I'm willing to spend around 3kp. I heard that there was a thread on this, but after an extensive search I was unable to find it. Any help would be appreciated.

well, to start with, velium jasper rings, +7 wis.

velium ruby vail, +8 wis (face slot)

black alloy medalion +5 wis (neck slot) can be farmed in RunnyEye, lower level of a lvl 35 goblin

those are all stuff I acuired before i was lvl 30, so you being 50, should have no trouble.

      Me too

As a fellow ranger, I feel your pain.

Get a Testament of Vanear for your off-hand (+10 WIS), and find a weapon for primary with at least +6 (I use Flamesong - but I'm on FV, it may not be tradeable on your server).

Head - Metal Linked Crown or Ivy Etched Helm
      Neck - BAM
Chest - Ivy Etched Tunic or Woodsman's Mail
Ears - at least +3 per ear (golden jasper earring if you don't already have better) Earring of the Solstice obviously a great choice (+8 once you're beyond the recommended level).
Face - *nod* on the Velium ruby veil
Shoulder - Elder Wolf Hide (good hunting gear too) + 4, or Kunzar Mantle (+3)
      Fingers - *nod* VJR
Arms - several decent options at +3 or better out there, Nathsar Vambraces at +4
Wrist - Bracelet of Comprehension if you can afford one (+15 WIS), else try Runed Mithril Bracer and Bracer of Hammerfal
      Back: Acrylia Studded Cloak
Feet: Tribal War Boots, Shrouded boots, Tigeraptor boots
Waist: Axgoreth's Belt of Defense if you can afford it (+15 WIS), if not, Cobalt Drake, Chitinous belt, Drake Scale belt
      Hands - Leaf Scale Gloves

I tried to stick to relatively cheap easy-to-get stuff (at least on FV), hope that helps,

um, a primary weapon with wis is kinda useless for tradeskilling, since usually you'll unequip it to put a geerlock in that hand. So unless you just want a new weapon for fighting with, don't waste plat on a weapon for "TRADESKILLING WIS GEAR". invest 300p and get ya a geerlock.

Shrouded boots and Axgoreth's Belt of Defense are both No-drop on servers besides FV where Chase is, so check the items before assuming you can easily obtain them.

          They drop in ME btw.

            Wis items

I don't think a primary item with WIS is useless if you are trying to get skill ups. Equip the geerlok once you are making the stuff you really want. And if it's money... hell, you're not going to break the bank failing a few mino hero brews, and you'll max your skill faster with a WIS item than a geerlok.

            Blacksmithing - 218 (Zillia 225)
            Fishing - 200

Every time this is discussed, I always suggest Platinum instead of Velium.

Some disagree, but here is my reason.

For 3 less wisdom, you save around 500p, assuming no fails.

              Platinum Ruby Veil = 238p
Velium Ruby Veil = 395p for ONE more wisdom.

              2 plat jasper rings = 211p
2 velium jasper rings = 525p For ONE more wisdom each.

Total savings = around 480p, now that I do the math. And thats not including fails on the ruby item, which isn't trivial.

I would have to disagree with you Sir0die. Yes, you are correct, it does conflict with a geerlock, but I think having the wis bonus is more important than having an extra %5 chance at a success of what you are making.

There has always been that debate of whether you get more skill ups when succeeding. I am certainly not tying to dredge that up again, but I have never noticed the difference. When I skilled up to 250 in baking, I had my bone handled scimitar in my hand the entire time. (+8 wis).

And I agree with Lilosh on the Platinum over the Velium, unless you have money you burn, go with the platinum. I have platinum +6 on my fingers now and could have afforded to upgrade to +7 velium on my fingers awhile ago, but I just couldn't see the reason in shelling out at least 700pp between the two finger slots for an extra +2 total.

i guess you're right about the wis/geerlock. it all comes down to, do you want to succeed more and have more successfull combines, or do you wanna skill up more. If you wanna skill up more, go with the wis item, if you want more success (to resell/use/give away) go with the geerlock.

when you get higher in level (tradeskill level) to where 1 combine can cost ya about 30plat or more, you might wanna switch from wis item to geerlock.

(p.s. you still have a chance to skill up on failed combines)

I like to succeed more once I get to the higher skill levels because the cost of skilling up starts to sting a bit.

Definitely do Testament of Vaneer, like someone suggested. At your level, you can also think about hunting timber griffons in Jagged Pine for their rare drop, eye of the griffon, +10 wis, range, secondary, or primary. You'll get great experience there while you're looking for one. Also, some of the ranger-only tigeraptor armor pieces have good wisdom on them, particularly the cloak and the skullcap, and can sometimes be picked up rather inexpensively.

Below is a link to my gear, you might get some ideas from that. As a half-elf ranger, I can use all the help I can get when it comes to wisdom. I don't remember the prices on much of it, but some of it would fall into your price range, I'm sure.

Thank you all for your help. I'm going to get some of this stuff as soon as possible.

I've hunted a billion griffons in JPF and I did pick up one eye of the griffon I always put that in my secondary slot before tradeskilling.

Working on tailoring now... it is up to 115, and I need to get it up a little more for the 5th shawl, then a WHOLE LOT more for the 6th shawl. Wis gear will come in very handy.

For the hands leaf scale gloves have a level restriction so might want to check about the wis on them for your level. They will increase in stats as you increase in level but at your level split paw hide gloves should do the trick and will be extremely cheap now days. Ditto on a metal linked crown might look for a ruined circlet or nightshade wreath.

As far as platnium vs velium for jewelry is concerned I agree with the prior poster go for the platnium unless you have an abundance of cash to toss out.

                              Shield Options

Another option is to do the Shield of Bane Warding quest, found at:

                              http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=1304

You'll need help to do it, but if you can, it's hard to beat +20 wisdom in the off-hand for tradeskilling.
