  • a new idea for bazaar

Really I think the best solution will be to remove the limit on bazaar merchants but have trader mode "poof" your toon and add his/her item info into the bazaar master database. People entering the bazaar would do all of their searching AND purchasing from the bazaar window without ever having to click on traders. The traders would be invisible bots when in trader mode (literally cells in a database) so lag would be manageable.

It's a great idea. Heck, at the very least it would get rid of the huge crowds near the banks. However, like most good ideas, since there's something else in effect that works, it won't be happening any time soon.

I don't like this idea... it ruins the ideas of "favorable locations" and "competative pricing".

How does it get rid of "Competitive pricing"?

Well, it definately hoses the entire location aspect, but how does it knock out competitive pricing?

It would hurt folks who go in and out of trader mode every hour or so to make sure that thier stuff stays in the list when you do a general search.

It would also kill the impulse buy - you go to a trader to buy item X and notice "HEY! I forgot I wanted an item Y - I think I'll buy it."

It also kills folks who try for one stop shopping - I'll carry a full spread of items that go together so even if one of those items is a bit more then what someone else is charging, lazieness causes the shopper to buy it from me anyway.

Actually, in my humble opinion, this would double or even triple impulse buying.

I can't count the times I have stared at an item that was more than I wanted to pay... but an item i really wanted....

Had I been able to click and have it instantly I can't say that I would not have.

The searching and running give me time to think, and decide to save my money for another day. hehe

Guess I haven't had many people 'impulse' buy in EQ, most people are looking for 1 item when they search, or a few specific items... I've never had the same person buy 2 different things from me.

Once I offer a competative price on one item, I can hope to get either one of these customers.

With only 1 point of contact for the entire bazaar, price-wars will rule the day. The people who price lower by 1pp will always get the sales.

You see, right now my friends and regulars know where I always set up. They know where to send their friends. I don't just sell for myself, I sell for fellow Tradeskillers as well. In the end, we all help each other out.

See my detailed reply in the other thread. Basically, make it so that when you right-click a vendor's name in the Bazaar search window, it pops open the "merchant" window rather than turns you to face the vendor. That way, you still can browse the vendor's inventory, but don't need to mess around with running and clicking and vendors on top of pillars and ogres squishing gnomes and all that.

This would be GREAT to solve the lag problem if added to the idea that vendors could not be seen.

So, lets combine all the ideas this way...

Bazaar works just like it does now but if you are in vendor mode and do not hit any keys or move the mouse you are switched to AFK after, let's say, 30 mins. After you are AFK for 10 more mins your toon goes "poof" and you are ported to a NEW "Vendor holding area". This is JUST like the code of the grave yards in the planes. You would still be in Vendor mode and if any player right clicked on your name in a /bazaar window he would get the merchant window with all your items anywhere they were in the bazaar. Plus all vendors in the holding area would be set so they don't take any space and are invisible so when a player returns to their keyboard they don't get stuck once they start to move.

                  Why would this be good...

                  1) LAG would be a thing of the past
                  2) No more searching for the vendor
                  3) still allows for those "impulse buy" sales
                  4) still allows one vendor shopping
                  5) still keeps the bazaar "location - location - location" system
                  6) active players have slight advantage because their toons show

                  Why would this be bad...

                  1) window shopping browsing the vendors would be harder
                  2) vendors with items not in common searches may never be seen

                  How to fix those problems...

When the /bazaar window is opened a RANDOM vendor's merchant selling window is opened too. This would be a "featured vendor" system. Just like how all the NPC merchants offer you an item when you open their windows. The buyer when doing searches changes the vendor in the merchant window by right clicking on the name in any search. However the first vendor that shows, being random, gets a chance to offer items to the buyer the the buyer may not have know were in the bazaar.

Tobin - Great suggestions. I like the random vendor thng and the fact that active traders can stay visible in the bazaar. It was kind of fun last night to make remarks about the gamblers and beggars. I think it would be interesting to have multiple bazaars or allow a limited number of traders in certain city zones. There is a great spot in East Freeport that could be converted into one.

I hate to disagree, but I'm against any subset of merchants vanishing while another subset remains visible. It doesn't matter if you determine who vanishes based on whether they're AFK, in a certain area, or whatever. If you can still right-click a visible vendor and access their inventory, then the visible vendors will have an advantage from window shoppers who casually browse. The invisible vendors would lose this advantage.

Either all merchants are visible, or all are invisible. Keep it simple. I'm in favor of all invisible.

I'm also against moving vendors. If they vanish, it doesn't matter where in the room they are. Why confuse players? If I set up my trader overnight in Point A, I don't want to come back in the morning and find myself warped to Point B. For graveyards, it may make sense in that you're moving the corpse to a safe location for CR. Here, you're in no danger by remaining in the same spot. It would only serve to confuse newbies if they get moved around at random.

I'm not too sure about the random vendor pop-up, either. I get really aggravated when browsing the Net and a random ad pops up. It's annoying, and it just ticks me off. I close it, get in a bad mood, and swear never to buy products from the advertiser. Would a random merchant opening be any different? And please don't give me the "it's one click to close it" line. The same thing could be said of Internet pop-ups. I do the one click to close the pop-up, sure, but I also still get mad and refuse to buy.

Other than that, I think I like this idea.
