  • Loam!

Is it just me, or does loam seam to be the default tradeskill item?

I am just looking at all of the combines, and by far loams have the highest demand! 1/2 of the armors, group seals, etc.

Would be kinda rocking if the seals could be made with fluids and marrows too Not sure I see why loams are used in pottery, heh.

    edit:

I'm not really complaining per say, and it's not even really a problem, but it would be shnazzy if the combines could also be made with the other tradeskill components so as not to overwhelm that one specific item. Or do more loams drop than fluids/marrows? I am unsure of this.

While I agree with your point I haven't noticed a shortage of loam supply on my server. They seem to be running around the same price in the bazaar as spinners and marrow. That might change as time goes on and supplies are used faster than they're created, but for now at least they seem stable.

Part of this also is that currently the spongy loams are not dropping in UF zones because of the race types of these new golems not being in the list for global drops on these. Ngreth is aware of the situation and working to get them added so hopefully with the next patch we will start to see loams (and other components) dropping in UF zones.

Loam is also weighted more heavily on the drop tables.

oh cool. Thanks for that bit of info.

What is the equation for the drop tables anyhow?

If I recall, since plate/chain both use Loam it was 2:1:1 for loam:marrow:fluids.

interesting, although loams are used for more than just plate/chain while marrows have nothing (as far as I am aware) that are used for anything other than augs and leather.

IE only loams can be used in pottery combines, etc.

Yes, but remember that augs made from tailoring can still go in smithed items, and vice versa. So really you have 4 uses for loams (plate smithing, chain smithing, symbols, and seal pottery), and two uses for the others (marrows: leather tailoring and symbols; spinnerets: silk tailoring and symbols). It's a trade off: smiths can make either armor type with one drop which drops twice as much, at the expense that potters are also after that supply. Tailors get the same amount of drops, and don't have to compete with potters for their supplies but limited to either leather or silk based on which material they have on hand, marrows or spinners. I know as a erudite I only have a silk option available to me (there is no erudite leather) so marrows are only useful to me for symbols (which I can't make because I'm only 81 and you have to be 85 to get the venerable book quest, but that's another thread). Were I a smith there would be no chain option available to me, but I could use the same component used for chain in my plate combines.

Spinneret fluids are used in the reaching symbols for ranged weapons and I believe some of the other combines for the cultural weapons as well. Specific weapons that are tailored use the marrows as well.

Spinarettes are indeed used for ALL the venerable weapon augment combines. (along with silk tailoring armour and augments too of course).
Marrows, it appears are the least used, being Leather and augs only. (and the leather whip I think)
Spongy loams the most used, being for Armour (chain and plate), weapons and augments; along with cosgrove soloist seals.

Only thing I wondered is: whre are the shield recipes? It seems a shame to miss such a thing out (last smithed shields were the energeiac ones I believe).

                      Ohhh, shields would be great!

And yes, Marrows are the one supply that has a huge huge surplus in and I basically only use for augs. Even after all of the augs, I still have marrows left and can't find a bloody loam for the life of me, hehe.
