  • Tools idea

I know we all at some time or another have some trouble dealing with
all the tools we need for some combines.

A lot of good ideas have been thrown out. Some take lots of coding on EQs part and some lots of DB work.

I was reading one tonight over on the EQ forums and an idea struck me.
It's just a brain storming idea so give me a little slack thinking out load.

First this requires a no drop item that would probably be quested
    (Transformation bauble)
It would also require special tool creation agents. Let's say there are 4
type of tool creation agents, 1,2,3,4.
1st one cost 1PP each stacks to 100
2nd one cost 10PP each stacks to 100
3rd one cost 100PP each stacks to 100
4th one cost 1000PP each stacks to 100

all are buyable but no drop (to remove an exploit)

    Now to make a tool

For example a Tanaan Smithing Hammer (cost 131PP sells for ??)
    combine in a forge
    Transformation Bauble
    1 Type 3
    3 type 3
    1 type 1

    (costs 131pp of materials)

and you can do it in reverse
    combine in forge
    Tanaan smithy hammer
    transformation bauble

    get
    Bauble

So rather then caring several tools we would only need 5 slots (maybe 6 or 7 create 2 more 1PP items to create more combinations)

The hard part would be to make sure that the component costs is in between the buy prices and sell back price. If my thinking is correct this would mean that you would lose both ways on the combine (except for the same combine break even). You want to avoid a PP exploit.

If my idea is valid that would only mean a quest and some new recipes 2 for each item deemed a tool.

One additions nice to have would be to highlight tools in the combine window when shown in a recipe so you know you can make them and an even nicer to have would be that those tools could be clicked on and their own recipe shown.

(Sorry if none of this makes sense I am working late and drinking lots of coffee )

There has been another discussion on this idea and was shot down vigorously

My worry is recipes have to be unique... and I am not sure we can get enough unique recipes with this idea. Many items "cost" the same amount.

I am writing a little analysis program.

Let me run some numbers and see if I can make it work.

After running a few test it turns out the problem is a little
harder then I thought it would be.

I was shooting for 5-6 items covering a wide price range. Well
          that is hard to do.

I am not done yet with my analysis but as my idea is developing it looks like you would need a new 10 slot container. The container would be
the quested item. Then you would have 10 different creation items.

So far I have 8 different priced creation agents. These are
priced in such a way to create at least 1 recipe per price
          from 1PP-2000PP.

I need to do some more testing to see how many duplicate
recipes per price I can achieve.

Crunched a lot of numbers and I think I have an optimal enough solution. And lots of data to prove it.

This idea would require a 10 slot container to do the tool combines and 10 tool combine components at specific prices points.

After lots of testing I have a set of 10 prices that are optimal enough to keep everyone happy.

If you want my detailed data just say so ngreth but here is the basic results...

            1,2+ million recipes from 1-2000PP

Avg number of recipes per price point 607

Avg number of recipes per price point 1-250 PP 2,561
Avg number of recipes per price point 1-100 PP 3,649
Avg number of recipes per price point 1-50 PP 4,950

lowest recipe count 1-250 (in order)
            1PP 3 recipes
            2PP 9 recipes
            3PP 27 recipes
            4PP 83 recipes
            127PP 118 recipes
            236PP 148 recipes
            112PP 183 recipes
            121PP 201 recipes
            172PP 209 recipes
            241PP 226 recipes
            5PP 247 recipes
            129PP 254 recipes
            17PP 256 recipes
            126PP 283 recipes
            63PP 302 recipes
            ....

The bad (but not so bad)....

There are 18 price points that only have 1 recipe (but are at higher prices)
1771 is the lowest price point amongst them

There are 20 price points that only have 2 recipes
1757 is the lowest price point amongst them

There are 26 price points that only have 3 recipes
            excluding the price point 1
1737 is the lowest price point amongst them

            18 only have 4 recipes (1613 lowest)

aside from price points 1,2, and 3 every price point under 1,000 has
            at least 41 recipes.
