  • Friendly Tradeskill Basics?

I'm likely missing a sticky that covers the basics everyone should know before getting started in tradeskilling. If someone could point me in the right direction, it'd be appreciated.

Some very simple basics I've missed:

Holding control key while clicking a stack to get a single item.

The HUGE Auto-Bank button to stack items in the bank.

The Cresent Reach "freebie" tasks to 50ish in most tradeskills.

Getting the trophies early and evolving them, rather than doing them at a more difficult point.

Learning recipies via recipe books rather than a manual combine.

Opening up a guild is a basic for any tradeskiller or packrat for the extra 240 slots. (Hear it's limited to creating one guild per account, so use selectively)

These are just a few that I've recently picked up and most have been available for years. Again, if someone could point me to to a sticky I'm missing that covers all of these and other things I know I'm missing, I'd be forever in debt. Simply telling me the obvious things I've been overlooking would work, too. Thank you.

Geerlocks can be tinkered in every trade skill for a skill increase of 5% when equipped. Starting trophies are less. You can equip both a trophy and a geerlok. Game mechanics selects effectiveness of the higher number but skills the trophy when your combine is higher than your present skill.

Geerlock help does NOT stack with the trophy. Repeat: The larger number is used, not both.

A paid Magelo account can locate on what alt you put the trade skill materials (and any other thing).

You can do something similar for free. Here is the link as posted long ago on eqtraders.

        Thank you, Paloverde.

Collapsable containers. These fit inside other bags and you unfold as you need. Make a tinker friend and be sure you destroy the correct piece when you're finished.

If you're going to be working mainly with one or two vendors for any extended period of time, buying needed material in bulk and replacing it on the better vendors beats all the running back and forth on cheap vendor items like water flasks.

The HUGE Auto-Bank button to stack items in the bank.

Do you mean the auto inventory that puts the item in your bags?

Or am I missing something that puts the item directly in the bank?

Oh and another trick .... /hidecorpse looted

The Auto-Bank button is in the bank itself. Not sure how long it's been sitting there, but by putting anything on your cursor and hitting it, it drops it in your bank and stacks for you. I opened up 10 to 15 slots per character with this feature combining all the various stacks of meat, pelts, silks, and such I missed manually doing.

              The Auto-Bank button

Wow .... I have never noticed that button.
Just looked at it now ... I hope it is fairly new.

What happened: the stack sizes changed some time ago. What a blessing!

My (free/unpaid) inventory tracker program will also let you know what alt(s) you put your trade skill materials on. Link for it is www.eq-manager.com. My sig has links for the program download as well as a sample of one of the output files from it.

Also, in the eq button thingy, under key bindings, there is a command to open / close all inventory bags, but iirc you have to pick which keys do it. I personally use alt + x to open all, and alt + space to close all. Can't wait for the one that does bank slots.

I have not tested it to see how it behaves with the tradeskill container UI, I use the ctrl + right click to open that.

Dyed bags were another one I missed. I was rambling my wishlist off in the serverwide channel last night and joked about naming or labling all of my bags. Someone brought up using dyed bags to color-coordinate tradeskill bags holding various types of items.

What I do is put the summoned tradeskill bag in a slot with the tools for that trade, followed by as many unenchanted backpacks as I need to hold components for that trade. Then the next summoned tradeskill bag and unenchanted bags, and so on.

If you want to save even more space, there is a Geerlok Hypermodulating Tool that is effectively 1 Geerlok that gives 5% to all 7 basic trades. You combine it by itself in an appropriate container for that skill to transform it (fletching kit for fletching, sewing kit/loom for tailoring, etc.) It maintains the same name, but the skill mod changes to the skill you want.
