  • Vendor price change?

    Hi!

I just started jewelry making and noticed something strange with the vendor in Felwithe who sells metal bars -- was hoping someone could shed some light on it. Basically, I used a combination of CHA and the spell Benevolence to get optimal prices from both her and the gem vendor in North Felwithe. After making many purchases from both of them, suddenly she started charging me worse prices, even though my CHA remained the same and I had cast Benevolence on her. I zoned, repeated. I logged, repeated. Same thing...any reason why a vendor would change prices on you? The gem vendor continued to give me optimal prices, though. A bug, perhaps? The only thing I could think of was that I always sell to the gem vendor...but I doubt the game keeps track of that, and, even if it did, I doubt it would penalize you for it.

    Thanks for any help,
    Gremag

Actually, you are probably right. The more popular a vendor is the worse his/her prices get. So, you must have reached a point where this has happened with your vendor.

Is it possible that you have done something to your fACTION WITH THe vender. That may not be the reason but worth a look-see.

There are several factors that affect a merchant's price, including your faction and charisma, whether he's greedy (innately charges higher prices for the same charisma and faction as most other vendors), and whether he's opportunistic (adjusts his prices if many people buy and sell from him). Full details can be found in the posts here:

I think you bought and sold enough from this vendor to trigger his opportunistic tendencies, hence the price change.

Wow -- I can't believe I skipped over that material before I posted! It seems this behavior is well documented, but thanks for the replies! I actually moved over to Ak'Anon for the time being...and even with optimal prices, jewelry making is getting very expensive

          Thanks again,

With jewelcraft it is pretty easy to keep the vendor prices from rising. Since you are buying at least twice as many things as you are selling, as long as you buy the bars and gems individually (with control), rather then by the stack (shift) the vendor will never give you higher prices. Basically the vendor tracks number of purchases and number of sales, and buying (or selling) a stack only counts as 1 item.
You can also use this to make a vendor lower their prices back to the old minimum, just buy a stack of a cheap regular item individually, and sell back as a stack. Repeat this untill the prices return to normal (doesn't usually take many repeats).

I'd be carefull doing this if I were you... it might easily come under the term of 'exploit'. But I wouldn't like to say for sure.

Actually whever a jewelry merchant started doing this to me, I would move vendors, did three different shops last night on my rise from 218 to 241. Started in PoK, when to Thurgadin, and finished in Shadowhaven.

When I made me trophy later that night and had to buy the velium bars in Thurgadin they were only a bit more expensive than normal.
