I know I am a packrat but alot of my older gear has value if only to me and most of what i carry around is no drop so I cannot just give it to an alt character to hold for me (even if my alts did have space what with all the tradeskill stuff I hoard.)

Here's a weird thought I had, just wondering if it will work.

      1. Give everyone account a one-time-only claimable in-game item called an Archive Certificate. Right-click the certificate to get the Use Archive Bag flag. This way, only one character per account can get the Use Archive Bag flag.

      2. Create new vendor-sold bags called Archive Bags. Only the character with a Use Archive Bag flag can add or remove items from an Archive Bag. But Archive Bags can be placed in the shared bank, even if they contain No Trade items.

This would allow storing No Trade items on alts, but would prevent the alts from using the items in any way.

I do not believe that any No Trade Item will ever be able to be passed through the shared bank. Otherwise, what is to stop you from outfitting EVERY toon you have with the best no trade armor in the game? I understand your intention is to save that armor you worked so hard to get and is now filling up bank space, but this would open up a whole world of exploitation.

I too have kept several items in my bank long after they were even situationally useful. These items have sentimental value to me in one form or another.

The concern I forsee is being able to accomodate all the NEW items that are introduced with each new expansion. Especially with SOE moving to the 1 expansion a year paradigm, there is more that comes out each expansion because Ngreth has more time to create. Again, the problem, and this is not the only one, is that EQ has long outlived its expected life of the original code and concerns that were not even considered when it was written are creating problems in the modern game that would best be served by reworking the original code to add flexibility but would take such a large amount of time and could have very drastic consequences for the game limit the ability to implement these kinds of proposed changes.

Because the alts won't be able to add or remove anything from the bags. It'll be like the Lore message you get when you try to take something out of the shared bank that you already own, yellow text and nothing on your cursor.

            Just a wild thought...

How about just leaving the existing system in place?

            But...

Add to PoK and/or the Guild Lobby/Guild Hall a new and improved bank. Rebuild the bank with new code and record keeping to match the needs of the current EQ without throwing out the old system. Doesn't mess with current character inventory, doesn't require massive DB movement and still provides more room to those who would love to avail themselves of it. Then the only issue is checking for lore against 2 databases.

Probably wrong, but as I said, just a wild thought.

I was just re-reading this thread and I came up with a new idea. One of the other posters did have a good idea. Archives. But not the way he mentioned it. Instead of larger bags or even more bank space, we need working inn rooms like EQ2. Instanced doors that open up a room where you can put all your old gear. Similar to the way you can take the Heritage Quest rewards in EQ2 and turn them into "furniture", you should be able to turn old no-trade gear into "furniture" and display them in your room.

Possible mechanics would include gear-to-furniture trades similar to the bag lady or a one-slot container with a combine button that would destroy the old item and give you a new, "furniturized" version of the same item.
