  • AC on food/drink??

I know a developer visits the boards frequently here, so was wondering if they knew when they would implement the AC adjustments on some food/drink items.

There are several threads about this on this forum and the best answer you will get is no ETA at this time. Also, remember the forum rules here prohibit posts directly asking developers for answers. The main EQ forums are the place for that (although I am probably guilty of this too on some occassions).

I hope it is fixed soon but I feel that it would require a revamp of the entire food system and how you receive the stats from food. (Instead of passive eating like now where you can forcefeed, it gives you a buff from consuming the food and that is when you get the stats) but this is a radical change from how food works in EQ and would be borrowing a feature from EQ2 (and probably some other games) and the end of forcefeeding would piss a bunch of people off too.

More likely that nobody would bother with eating stat food anymore if it were done that way. 150 hp/mana is the max. I know I sure as hell wouldnt go through the trouble of making a Bristlebane sandwhich if it was temporary. Would you?

They could change the yield on the Bristlebane sandwich to be 100 instead of 1, and have a turn-in guy who converts the 1 old sandwich into 100 new ones.

I'd like to see some changes in the food and drink area, it could be more fun, even if it takes more effort.

Right now food is considered an "item" (armor, aug, non-visible etc), with all the difficulty associated with getting said item for the value.

The "food gives a buff" concept offers all kinds of interesting opportunity (the food you ate has given you indigestion causing you to vomit sticky chunks over your enemies, slowing their movement speed for 30 seconds....or the drink immediately causes stomach cramps and bloating but as a result you find you can levitate for 10 minutes).

It seemed to me that EQ2 food/drink system offered far more Tradeskill potential than EQ1 but it also seems likely that a revamp of brewing and baking would be necessary to achieve the best results.

Ngreth has stated that if force feeding did not exist, he could create much more powerful foods and drinks. I agree that baking and brewing would need a large rework or at least a large addition to them (as skill ups aren't too difficult to come by) of new recipes with stats.

This is not just a minor tradeskill adjustment. This is probably a wishful dream as I suspect, like the size of the bags, that the food "code" is imbedded deep in the original coding of EQ and would be a large undertaking to change. This is just speculation on my part, no actual confirmation.

Again, the duration would become an issue too as it would require the food to be a buff that does not fade upon dying, or rework the food/drink so that if you are separated from your food, it does not give you the warnings of being hungry or out of food.

Just remoeve the right-click force feed option from all food. Drop that piece of the code out and the food should work as intended I think. At least a lot closer to it.

An alternate could be that clicking your food item generates a new non-stackable item similar to a power source that has a count down effect the same way. If it is in the food slot in your inventory (This would have to be added) then the timer is running and the effect of the food is being gained.

Yeah set up all food to summon a food orb that you put in your food slot. You could have crappy food and good food and switch them out the same as force feeding but without perpetually keeping that original food item.

(You can substitute the word food above with drink too I just didn't wnat to type food/drink over and over.)

As I said, I believe the way food is consumed and the way force feeding works is not a simple thing to change or remove. It is most likely rooted deep in the original coding of EQ. Can't speak from experience as I have not seen the original EQ code, or any EQ code, but based on conversations on these forums, it sounds to me that it would be the case for force feeding.

As far as a food slot, that would be a fairly large change as well, or adding a summoned orb from all food. These kinds of large changes are not quick or easy to do but are alternatives to trying to rewrite the food consumption codes. Not bad ideas, just I don't know how feasible they would be.

I know Ngreth prefers to have the stats applied only after you consumed the foot (like EQ2 does.) That's the reason why there aren't a lot of super foods out there; you could continually force feed yourself and keep them forever. It's also why we don't see a lot more in terms of brewing and baking.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this changed in an expansion, assuming it's not super complicated to do, like you suggest Aldier (please note, this is not to be considered as foreshadowing of anything that may or may not happen in the expansion. I have absolutely no information on the expansion and what it might contain, so please don't read into it anything more than the literal meaning of the words.)

                      NO EATING GNOMIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

So. . .food that acts as a power source, then? Certainly you couldn't stack power sources and food then, but since you can't stack the AC which doesn't exist now, it's still something better than the nothing currently available. Also the mental image of havin' my robes an' my bracer connected by mystical mana tubing to a bladder of soup (or marinade. I know my guildies would try to slip tenderizer in there instead an' wait for me to be slain) makes me giggle.
