  • Returning glutton :P

Hey all, long time reader, first time poster (unless I had an account here, I may, but I didn't see any of the usual names I used in the members list)

I played EQ from 1999 to 2005 and then switched over to WoW for a bit. I then semi quit both and haven't played any games in a while. I have moved in with a friend while my new house is being built and I am getting pretty bored lately, she works as a teacher during weekdays, and I work weekend night shift at the local PD so there is hours and hours of downtime. I have reloaded EQ and been farting around on it, and wow everything has changed. I have multiple high(ish) level characters, 71 monk(hey 70 was the cap when I stopped, it just took a couple kills to level :P) a 62 ranger(ranger doesn't get to level, just AA), and a 60 druid. So I do kind of know what I am doing when it comes to some stuff, but I cannot figure out some things. Mainly the evolving aspects of the trophies. Possibly just trophies in general.

That said, I have a lot of free time, and as I mostly just sit at home and revert vandalism on Wikipedia(I guess you could think of wikipedia as a MMORPG) I figure I want to work mainly on tradeskills. I have some cash, well quite a bit of cash, that I had when I cleaned some droppable stuff off my little twinks before I left, but the kicker is, I would rather farm stuff if possible, yes I know I am a glutton for punishment, but it will really give me something to do.

My monk has most of his tradeskills in the low 100's, nothing is over 150, the druid has 250ish JC, and nothing else, and the ranger has 280ish fletching...

Now(and who knew I was so long winded) onto my questions. I have looked the trophies up, but I really do not understand this evolving concept, I figure by reading the descriptors I have to make the trophy, and then do combines to 'evolve' it, so should I try to make trophies now, before I skill up to 300? or does the trophy just evolve as you actually make stuff at 300, and do I have to make a different trophy at each level or when it evolves it becomes the next higher trophy?

Again, I am not doing this to power through it, I really just want something to do in my spare time(I don't even watch tv, so wow it is very boring there :P)

You gain the trophy by completeing a test (task/quest) and then if you equip the trophy whilst doing non trival combines within 100 skill ponts of your raw skill level it will gain experience and evolve. Some would say leave the trophy until you are at a higher skill level, but unless you have something else with a skill mod (gearlok for example) you may as well get them when you are starting and just let them evolve with your skill in my opinion. The lower your skill level, the easier it is to do the task to get the trophy in the first place too, so that can be an advantage.

I would get the trophys ASAP as the tasks are much easier at lower skills (and need commoner ingredients). Unless you are really lucky with skill-ups, the trophy will level up at a similar rate and will be a better mod than geerloks on reaching ?200.
Remember to equip the trophy while skilling up and enable evolving items (there is a tab on inventory window iirc).
      Good luck with your tradeskilling.

You can put trophys in the Amno slot and they will evolve.Since cash isn't a problem id go to the bazzar and stock up on sunshard ores like 2000 of em and buy the silver ingots from Merchant Woad in the barren coast and have your druid make silver conduits which trival at 290.The silver conduits can then be used to in Smithing, talioring, fletching and tinkering for skill ups. Also look into the new cultural stuff.GL

Actually a geerlok is 5% mod. So until you reach Expert trophy (250 skill level) it is better or equivalent to use a geerlok as it is to use the trophy.

Evolving items are a small set of items that were added to the game where you get a weaker item initially and you put experience into the item to improve and "evolve" it into a better item. Ngreth took the code for this and hacked up a nice little bit to work for tradeskills where the "experience" gained by the item is the trivial of a successful combine, but to put a limit on it, only combines within 100 trivial of your current raw skill count. And to adjust for the 250+ crowd, any combine of 350+ trivial gets rounded down to 350, so that after 250, any non-trivial combine will work for the trophy.
