  • Master Trophy with less than 300 skill?

So I did some 200 KC combines the other day and went from 282->294. Not bad, I thought to myself, and shipped over another 200 combines from my mushroom-picking alt to finish the job. Only, after another 160 or so combines, I had not gained a single skillup. Odd, I thought, but entirely possible given the RNG.

However, I noticed something strange had occured. My brewing trophy had leveled to Master, even though my Brewing was still stuck at 294. I was under the impression that (minus the Grandmaster rank), the rank of your trophy was based strictly off your current skill in the tradeskill involved?

Am I bugged? I'm hesitant to continue grinding, even though it's rather cheap to do so, since it's also a huge waste of time if I cannot progress any further without being "un"-bugged. Thanks.

edit: I finished the batch of 200 but got no more skillups.

The trophies level at their own rate. They can get at most one level ahead of you. If they are a level ahead of you their level rate drops to zero. If for any reason they fall behind you they get an increased leveling (11x) rate till they reach your level. Unlike skill ups, trophies get a set amout of xp on a successful combine, so if you have a bad run (200+) with no skill ups, your trophy will get ahead of you. Conversely, if you have a good run, you will get ahead of your trophy.

It just means your trophy cannot gain any more experience until you catch up to it (reach 300).

I had a funny experience on the opposite end. I apparently went and got several of the tradeskill trophy quests months ago. But this week I started actually doing some brewing. By the time I realized I should have a brewing trophy, I was already 180 skill. So I went and did the nice, easy quest I had, and got a beginner's trophy when I was almost a journeyman.

On the next 3 combines, it jumped two ranks.
I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

On the other side of that coin. I hit 300 research and my trophy was still at 12%.

Yeah, the multiplies increases by another 10 for each tier you are off so you had a X31 modifier for the first combine and X21 for the next...

                Noobish trophy question

Hi everyone, I'm new to Everquest and have just gotten my footing enough in the game to start thinking about tradeskills. I have referenced EQtraders countless times in the past few weeks. I recently ran across the information in the guides section about the trophy quests. I read the FAQ here, the quest information on allakhazam, and the trophy quest guide on eqtraders and there are a few things I don't quite understand.

Most basically, what is the trophy exactly? I read that the trophies have stat modifiers that get higher with the higher level trophies. What kind of stat modifiers? Tradeskill stats? Basic player stats? I guess the bottom line is at this point in the evolution of the game, since PoR, is this quest still worth investing my time into?

Also I understand that the trophies evolve as your skill evolves. So it seems that it would be smartest to get the beginner trophy while you are still actually under 100 in skill since the mats are cheaper/easier to acquire and then you would never need to do the quest again at the higher, more difficult levels, because the trophy would level with you. Is this true?

I appreciate the help with this and all of the other questions that I have gotten answered by reading these forums.

The trophies are exactly that. Tradeskill modifier items. (Tailoring + X%) as an example. If you have an item in game that gives you a better skill mod than what the trophy offers, then you may or may not need/want the trophy. When to get the trophy is a matter of opinion. The reason you listed is one rationale and make sense. You are correct that getting the beginner's trophy and evolving it (by having it equipped when successfully doing non-trivial combines within 100 points of your skill) would require the cheapest/easier combines to make. I personally think that parts are not too hard to find, and I got my trophies between 200 and 250 (Journeyman task) to avoid the rarer 250+ combines (and the old trophy). It is a matter of opinion and your ability to gather materials.

There are 7 levels to the trophy. Each level increases the modifier that the trophy provides.

                  Level...% Modifier
                  1.............1
                  2.............2
                  3.............3
                  4.............5
                  5.............8
                  6............12
                  7............15
