First, you have to have your book on you (i.e. in a bag you are carrying, it cannot be on a corpse or in the bank).Originally posted by Jaadin View PostI am am currently doing the Exalted Impressions quest and have killed over 25 adult mammoths. If you have the book with you, then it's just bad luck. Keep killing until the impressions land.

It appears random unfortunately.
3 of us went through this (mage #1, mage #2 and myself).
- On the icefall mammoths, by the time we had all our "kills", mage #1 only had 1 impression and we all had our book on us the entire time. It took us 2x the normal kill # for him to get his 4 impressions.
- On the dire shaman, mage #2 had the problem. It took us 1.5 the shaman kill # for him to finish up all 4 impressions.Crystilla

And you can't be a shroud. (there is no good way for me to give a warning on the update, and people don't read the quest info even if I included it there. though I think it will give the "you don't have the book" message if you are shrouded.)

It is agonizingly random. I've done the 75 quest with three toons (well, 2 1/2). Darkroot Shaman, finished impressions for ther three at kills 25, 28 and 41 IIRC.
Mammoths - two got their impressions in the first dozen kills, while Garshok is at 2 impressions for 25 kills. Didn't get the first one until kill #14. Still waiting for a chance to head back.Garshok
95th Dreadlord, Povar-Quellious, 300 Ogre Grand Master Smith, 300 all skills
(glad the climb to 300 is finally over)
Zopharr
95th Priest of Brell, Povar-Quellious, 300 Dwarven Grand Master Smith, 300 all skills
(holds his 15% smithing trophy in his off hand and pretends to dual-wield - and hopes the Holy Dirt of Brell he's carried for twelve years will have a use in the new expansion)
Rishathra
95th Shaman of Inny, Povar-Quellious, 300 Troll Grand Master Smith
(got so tired of looking for a troll smith for armor that I made one)
Marzanna
95th Necromancer, Povar-Quellious, 300 Tinker - Tailor
(still working on Solder, Spy)

And without wanting to crow about it, I just thought I'd post that it's possible to get your impressions within the required number of kills (just because you see lots of complaints but never many 'good news' posts).
I had all mammoth impressions by kill 15 - a friend I did this with needed 21 kills. I got my final shaman impression on the final required kill.
Foundry workers were the same - final impression on final kill, and I was really lucky reavers in FM - had all but 1 impression after 16 kills.
As previous folk have advised, stick with it... and cross your fingers that you've had your bad run with the RNG! With any luck you'll get your good run when it comes to combining sublimes

...or the random chance of getting an impression could be increased slightly since *so* many people are having trouble with it, Unless the intent is to frustrate players, of course.Roanne LeFaye

There are a few which have reported having issues here as well as others reporting it is working fine. The intent is not for it to be easy. I don't have mine done yet, but it's not frustration, it's the fact that I have too much to do, so I work on it when I can. If you're getting frustrated, find something that you enjoy for a bit, then come back.Originally posted by Roanne View Post...or the random chance of getting an impression could be increased slightly since *so* many people are having trouble with it, Unless the intent is to frustrate players, of course.
Patients has always been a trademark trait for tradeskillers, as there are many times, like this, where it may be needed.

You can run the probabilities all you want, but remember without the actual chances to get an impression you can't be exact and also, within the realm of probability, each kill is a unique "roll" to see if you get an impression.
The RNG is fickle. If you are a tradeskiller, you are aware of this. That is all that is happening if you are not getting impressions quickly and you are doing everything correctly.Shawlweaver Sphynx on Cazic Thule

it is already 5% OVER the amount needed to be an "exact" 1/1 per kill, if you hit exact luck. If 1/1 is 20% then the chance is 25% it the 1/1 is 15% the chance is 20%, etc...
I currently have no plans to increase it past that, ESPECIALLY on the 75 and 80 quests.

I am trying to understand exactly what this means.Originally posted by Ngreth Thergn View PostBut it is increased slightly.

If I need 40 kills and 5 impressions, that means I should get 1 impression every 8 kills to be even which would mean "exact" would be a 12.5% chance to get an impression and the in game chance to get an impression would be 17.5%.
I don't have the quests in front of me, but that seems fairly simple equation to determine the chance of getting an impression on a kill.Shawlweaver Sphynx on Cazic Thule
