  • Cost of storebought components

I found the new (*) amazing, I dont know if it is the right place to post this, feel free to move if innapropriate.
I have a suggestion about what would be a pretty nice improvment on this site.
I often get asked by fellow guildies how much would you charge me for such and such combine ? I always make a price that covers me the raw cost.
As the (*) identifies the storebought components in every recipes, would it be feasible to sum up the cost of those components in order to have the cost of bought components for a given recipe.
I know the yield xxx in some sub-recipes adds complexity to the calculation but it would be **** great to be able to give a fair price very quickly without browsing all sub-combines.
    What you think ?

This has been brought up a few times, but sadly, it's not feasible. The main reason is that there's no consensus on how to price subcombines. For example, spell research uses items that can be made or purchased, but the purchase price is something like 100x the cost to make them. Which price do you use?

Another example is celestial essence. It costs a little over 1pp if you get dropped components to make it, around 2pp if you use the vendor-sold components, or much more if you buy it ready made in the bazaar -- and as a person who has made WAY too much CE over the years, I always prefer to buy it. Which price do you use?

In short, while the idea seems simple, it's actually rather complex to implement.

And worse than complex... it is subjective.

What it costs to YOU is different depending on if you use dropped or purchased. Additionally, many people do not consider it complete unless a price for bazaar components are included, and that is WAY different every day and between every server.

Additionally, it can be affected by a players charisma, and we would get no end of complaints if it "cost more" just because that player does not have a 110 + charisma. Additionally some specific merchants are greedy. If a player makes a mistake and buys from that merchant they will be paying more.

The mass amount of extra variables, and subjective elements make it not feasible.
