    Does anyone know of a comprehensive guide of how they work exactly? Does the triv of the combine matter? And with maxed out AA does that mean you can have at most a 1/2 chance to fail? Or on a combine that you would normally succeed say 1/8 of the time you will instead succeed 1/4 on average?

    Thanks in advance.

    It cuts your chance to fail by the prescribed amount until you reach teh min chance to fail (5% - 1%/40raw skill over the trivial).

      No. While it may not make mathematical sense, for combines far above your skill you can have a base fail chance that is more than 100%. But in those cases the minimum 5% success chance kicks in (after mastery is calculated).
      Here are some sample numbers for a combine with a 400 trivial, first with no mastery, then with mastery 3:
      300 skill: 49.5% fail -> 24.75% fail
      250 skill: 99.5% fail -> 49.75% fail
      200 skill: 149.5% fail -> 74.75% fail
      150 skill: 199.5% fail -> 99.75% fail (reduced to 95%)
      100 skill: 249.5% fail -> 124.75% fail (reduced to 95%)
      50 skill: 299.5% fail -> 149.75% fail (reduced to 95%)
      0 skill: 349.5% fail -> 174.75% fail (reduced to 95%)

        Some more examples, this time comparing results to make Sublime Chest Symbols or Elegant chest armor, trivial 466, with and without Blacksmithing/Tailoring Mastery 3:

        with 300 skill + 12% trophy + no mastery AA -- success rate = 38%
        with 300 skill + 15% trophy + no mastery AA -- success rate = 47%
        with 271 skill + 8% trophy and mastery 3 -- success rate = 47%
        with 300 skill + 12% trophy and mastery 3 -- success rate = 69%
        with 300 skill + 15% trophy and mastery 3 -- success rate = 73.5%

        So, for the most difficult recipes in the game now, 18 AA points can either save you 1000 - 2000 combines worth of skill ups and trophy progress to get the same success rate you can get without the AA, or can get you just almost 1.6 times as many successes from a given number of components at the maximum skill/trophy. This for recipes where the components are running over 100k per attempt.
