  • Mob Types

Does anyone know if there's a list out there that has what type of monster a mob is? Since the new cultural drops have come out I've been trying to figure out which is golem, spider, animal, and humanoid.

I've got spiders and worms drop the silk stuff.

Giants drop nothing (though I had to have a friend explain that a giant and human are not related in any way).

I hunted in the gorge, and I think the muddites were dropping everything (though was not trying to classify at this time).

The other day, I wanted to work on tailoring so I went to South Karana to what drops I would find there. Just stayed near the aviak village and avoided the high level gnolls that were now wandering through there. The aviaks dropped all types, making them humanoid (I can kind of see that). The gnolls dropped all types, also making them humanoid. Centaurs dropped nothing (though they looked half human and half animal). Elephants dropped nothing (so not in the animal group).

Yesterday, I was hunting in the Warrens killing batlings. They dropped everything so are considered humanoid.

Obviously, I have no clue by looking at mob what they might drop. Any direction where this data might have already been gathered would be appreciated. If not, I'll keep to my list by my computer.

    Thanks.

The only real way I know to do it is to have characters with the appropriate skill / spells test then for you. Some spells only work on animals. Some skills only work on humanoids (not necessarily humans).

Humanoids in EQ appear to be mostly two legged upright, critters. This includes character based races, but will not include specific "monster" races (like sarnaks).

The character model does not necessarily mean it is a humanoid and just because it does not have two legs does not mean it will not be flagged humanoid.

Again, bottom line is trial and error. If the caster gets a "this spell only works on animals" message when casting an animal only spell, you know that is not an animal. If a ranger with headshot can headshot the mob (or a rogue can assassinate the mob), then you know for certain, that mob type is flagged humanoid.

Giants are giants, not humans/humanoids. But, some giants are flagged humanoid. Again, trial and error while recording the results is your best bet.

This is a flaw in the EQ system for a long time now. Animals not being flagged as animals. Summoned constructs not being classified as such. Ngreth at one point posted a list of NPC model "races" that were used for the "golem/construct" list for smithing drops, but I do not know if there is an up to date listing.

Was in Zhisza the other day and "a pain golem" was not flagged as a golem/summoned creature.

Magelo's database includes body type and race fields. If you're unsure of an NPC's body type you can look it up there.

Does anyone know if snakes can drop Animal Pelts? They are classified as animals.

the only "type" I am using is humanoid. And yes Giants are not "humanoid" but "Giants"

For all the others I am using specific NPC Races in a list.

So you can't use the "animal spell lands" trick for the pelt droppers. It is a specific list of cats, wolves, and bears (maybe a few others)

lol - any chance Devs will create a special researchable Identify spell that identifies a mob's body type and maybe a rank 2 version that would identify if the mob belongs to a certain "class" of TS droppers (without telling you whetheer or not they actually have any loot on them at the moment)?

              ex:

Maevenniia casts Tunare's Scrying Spell Rk II on *a_furry_mob_001*

You sense that *a__furry_mob_001* is an animal.
non-pelt dropper --->Unfortunately, this animal's pelt is unlikely to be useable.
pelt-dropper--> This animal's pelt is likely to be quite useful!

Maevenniia casts Tunare's Scrying Spell Rk II on *a_big_rockthing*

You sense that *a_big_rockthing* is a type of Golem.
Golems are known to hoard the products of the earth.

              or

You sense that *a_big_rockthing* is a type of Summoned creature.
Unfortunately, summoned creatures care nothing for the products of the earth.

Maevenniia casts Tunare's Scrying Spell rk. II on *a_bipedal_organism*

You sense that *a_bipedal_organism* is humanoid.
Humanoids are likely to pick up all sorts of useful things!

              or

Despite its shape, this is not a humanoid.
There's no telling what its carrying around.

Mob type isn't always constently defined. For example, golems in Forgotten Halls are apparantely flagged humanoid and not golem, so they drop silks and pelts in addition to ore.

What I would love to see is all of the miners of EQ moved from the humanoid table to the ore dropper table. Orcs in Crystal Caverns, Gnolls in Blightfire, Orcs and Goblins in Vergalid/Sunderrock, Minotaurs in Dragonscale/Loping, Coldain in GD, and many more. The game is full of NPCs mining for various ores, so it would make sense that they would have a high chance of finding these ores as well.

I second that! Perhaps for research stuff too since Ngreth said only pure casters drop the spell research stuff.

Voragath casts Quellious' Scrying Spell Rk II on *a_bipedal_mob_001*

You sense that *a_bipedal_mob_001* is a fighter.
Fighters do not care much for the arcane.

                    And

Voragath casts Quellious' Scrying Spell Rk II on *a_robed_mob_001*

You sense that *a_robed_mob_001* is an intellectual.
Intellectuals have a high interest in the arcane.

                    And

Voragath casts Quellious' Scrying Spell Rk II on *a_creature_mob_001*

You sense that *a_creature_mob_001* is a jack of all trades.
Jacks of All Trades know little about the arcane.

                      That is an excellent idea!

Maybe add humanoid hunter mobs to pelt-droppers as well?

Heh...while I think those are interesting ideas, I'm not sure they are worth the time and effort of going through the mob database to re-assign.

All I really want is to be able to determine with a reasonable certainty whether or not a mob CAN drop an item without having to kill 100 of them to see.

Basically, I'd be happy with no changes, as long as I can further understand the system.

Funny I read the Porus Loam is supposed to drop more in Teir 3 new zones like Steam Factory on up yet Im not sure if there are any humanoid types in the zones. Like steam Factory what would be Humanoid in there ? Brownies ? Minataur ?

Not sure about those. I, personally, would consider both of those to be humanoid...but I'm not sure they are flagged as such. There are, however, gnomes in SF. They are humanoid.

                              Brownies. Probably humanoid.

Minotaurs. Maybe. They may also be marked as "monsters"
