The idea was to make the components drop on level appropriate mobs for the level of the armor it made. Also to make them "global" in that you did not have to go to any 1 spot to farm them. They would drop naturally as people hunted.

SSRA was not what I would call getting experience while farming scales. What "other" drops were you at level 75 hunting for in SSRA?

It was simply that we wanted drops from level appropriate content, in a global since.

We wanted SKILL to mean something, so we put a skill requirement in.

You can hunt for the higher level stuff, and do it, and gain skillups. It is just that the drops are a bit less common, and if your stats are not in the 400 range you will skillup a bit more slowly. if you stats are high enough though, all the fails will do is cost you money. You will have the same skillup chance.

You can get drops with which you can make combines that will gain you skill hunting level 80 content. The issue is that the trivial is so high you will fail more.

that said, Yes, you can get more drops, from 60, and because of the fact that it is so low compared to you, you can kill faster, thus getting even more drops, and then the trivial is lower, so it costs less.

You have options and you can choose to do it whichever way you like.

I can see Nazlith's point, though --- if we're trying to skill up on drops that we get during normal hunting, we can't even attempt most of those combines 'til we get to 275 skill. I don't really have the play time to spend farming Fine Silks and Hides in HoH (for little to no XP at level 80) to skill up to the point I can use the Superbs and higher that have been dropping regularly in the high-end TSS/TBS/SOF zones. Since that same lack of time prevents me from farming plat, either, buying isn't an option (especially at the ludicrous prices some people are willing to pay/are expecting TSers to pay).

There really isn't a "choice" there... Other than giving up every other non-work activity I have to burn more time in game. Not going to happen. ;D

I was 65 to 70 when I did the majority of my Ssra farming and when I did go back later they had added the Shissar bloods.

The experience in the Grey was never as good, but I farmed the shrink wand (which I never got,) the smithing drop, and the regular named (which dropped some relatively high tribute items,) all at the same time.

I agree with having the tradeskill drops from level appropriate mobs is a good design. I disagree with locking us out from attempting the higher level drops. Thanks for letting me know the thought process behind the decision.

You are not locked out from the higher level combines. Only the armor combines are skill locked (by not being able to purchase the book). The templates can all still be experimented and learned the old fashion way. The templates are the skill up path.
