  • What skill level unlocks what?

What skill level for each cultural armor book unlocks at what level?

For example, what skill do i have to have in order to make exalted symbols and elaborate armor?

  • #2
Elaborate definitely needs 275 skill, and I believe Elegant requires 300.

The Symbols seem to be level-related rather than skill.

so absolutely need a skill level of 275 to make the elaborate armor... that kinda sucks... was hoping to get away with having 250

Is it comfirmed 275 then or is it just around that?

I can confirm that it is exactly 275 skill to see the Elaborate/Eminent book on the merchant to learn recipes and that it is required 300 skill to see the Elegant/Exalted/Sublime book on the merchant.

You don't need a 275 skill to MAKE the elaborate armor....I made mine at 241 plus trophy and mastery aa's and have made one of each piece for brambleborn and I am currently now 260.

Can you experiment with exalted augs or do you have to read the book?

The reason people say you need 275 skill is because you cannot purchase the books from the vendors (the ones that teach you the recipes and allow you to do the combines) until you reach 275 skill. Previously, there was a bug that allowed you to make the armors without having scribed the books, but that bug has been fixed. If you attempt to make the armors without scribing the appropriate book first, you'll get a message about needing to know something more. So effectively, you can no longer make the elaborate armors before skill 275.

this is not true as of yesterday.

I made elaborate arms (brambleborn) and I have a 261 skill raw and I have never gotten the book....in fact I have made every piece now w/o the book.

I still want to know about the exalted augs can I do the same and "experiment" once I have the quest done?

Well about the only way to find out is to try. It's hard to say as you shouldn't be able to do the Elaborate that way anymore. Keep in mind it is NOT supposed to work that way and will be changed I'm sure.

Gotcha but prob by the time he changes it I will be 275 and since I now know all of the recipe's I am guessing they won't take that away.

It has been reported that Exalted and Sublime augs and Elegant armor gives the "this seems right but you need to learn something more" message when attempting to experiment them even at 300 skill. They require the books.

For elaborate armor, if you had previously made the armor before the bug was fixed, there is a chance you can still make it. Did you experiment or used the UI to make the elaborate armor?

Yeah, if you experimented before the bug fix, you might have managed to learn the recipe, and thus since you have learned it, you are able to do it despite the other lock.

The "lock" works by only allowing you to make the combine once you have learned it. If you have learned it at one time, you can make the combine. So if you managed to learn it before the fix, you can do it no matter the skill.

The books are restricted to the appropriate skill. If you do not have the skill, you cannot buy the book.

The book will teach you the recipe making you learn it without doing the combine, thus giving you the ability to do the combine.

Is the thought process behind this posted in any thread? I came back to EQ after several months away and now that my characters are 80, I am returning to tradeskilling. But it seems my lvl 80 character has to mindlessly farm lvl 60 mobs in order to get the drops he needs to skill up. Am I missing something here?

Is that different than mindlessly farming wyverns or Othmirs in Cobalt Scar or Spiders and Spiderlings in a newbie zone for silks?

Since I farmed Shissar Scales in Ssra and the Deep (both of which gave some exp and had other drops available,) I'll go with yes. Thanks for not answering my question, though.

And if they are going to change the system, wouldn't they make it better? That would be my expectation, so I was just wondering what, if any, reasoning there was for what they did.
