  • Newbie question on Celestrial Escents

I know this has probably been asked a million times already, but I'm new to this board and seached thru countless forum pages and didn't see it.

I'm to the point in alot of my trades to where I need Celestrial Essence, I have tons and tons of words collected so I went and bought 10 stacks of Scent of Marr and a mortar and Pestle and tried to make me some essence.
I put, 1 scent and 1 word in the mortar and hit combine, no dice, tried this with all my words in 3 of my 10 slot bags, still no dice. So I went and checked EQtraders list of words and a lot of my words are on the list but they won't combine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I already bought 400pp worth of scent of marr

Try combining a Celestial Solvent and the Scent of Marr (or one of your Words listed on Celestial essence recipes page) in the Mortar and Pestle.

You need to combine the Celestial Solvent with a spell research component, not two spell research components.

So, Scent of Marr is just a replacement for the "word" ?
If I combine Solvent and Scent I'll get Celestrial Essents without having to use any "words" ?

      Sounds like I wasted 400pp :?

There are MANY recipes for the Celestial Essence. There are also Many possibilities that FAIL too.

        Basic Recipe is:

        Celestial Solvent
High Level Research Component (ONLY ONE)

        In a Mortar and Pestle

The High Level Research Component can be:

(Necro or Mage Paper) Words of XXX
        (Enchanter Paper) XXX Page ##
        (Mage Research Item) XXXX
        (Wizard Rune) Rune of XXX

The Scent of Marr is One of the working Components from the Mage Research Item Set. It is commonly used because it is sold in endless supply by a NPC Merchant. (It is also used in making some poisons).

Be aware, that NOT all papers, Research Items or Runes Work. There are lists available.

          Okay, thanks for the info.
I wasted 400pp since I have 2 banker with 10 slot bags full of words needed to make esscents.

They need to make that clearer on the page about making esscents, it doesn't state that scent replaces the "words", it makes it sound like scent replaces solvent.

You have not wasted 400 plats. If you are serious about high-level tradeskilling, you are going to need TONS of Celestial Essence.

Or you can sell the Celestial Essence for 4 to 5 plats each in the Bazaar and make a nice profit.

Could you point us to the page where you found this? I've been doing a quick browse and wherever I look, it says to combine a celestial solvent with a spell research component. I'm sure if it's not stated clearly anywhere, it will be fixed in a heartbeat if you only point those that can to the right (or wrong, in this case) place.

All I could find on the site was http://www.eqtraders.com/secrets/celestial_solvent.htm ... And there, it does look kinda like it's saying tha those can be used for celestial solvent in the table (there's one sentence at the top that says, as you say, about combining solvent with research component)

This essence is made by combining celestial solvent (vendors listed on the poison trade supplies page) and one of many spell research supplies, in a mortar & pestle (vendors listed on the poison trade supplies page).
That backs your statement and helps to clarify.

But then the big table thats easy to see and read (as opposed to all those scrunched words I'm thinking the page is "not yet complete" since it normally 'notes' are at the bottom and the page doesn't feel the same as the rest. *shrug*) the big table says:

                These work for Celestial Solvent
I'm thinking the page might be clarified if that were changed to either:

                These work for Celestial Essence
                or
                These work with Celestial Solvent
Since those are more what it means, semantically, I believe.

Sorry, I probably just mis-understood what it said, something about if you didn't have Luclin you could buy scent of marr, and mistook that for saying you could use scent instead of solvent, yes, I saw it saying use solvent, but then it said that about not having pop or luclin.
BTW, if you don't have those upgrades, where do you get solvent from ?

So, what I did, I compared the price of the "words" to the price of the scent and the words actually sold to the vendor for more than the scent cost, so I sold my words to the merch and bought more scents.

                  Guess I shouldn't looked before I spoke.

                      I don't believe you can.

                      PoP or Luclin is required.

                        Solvents...

If you do not have PoP, and would prefer to spend money instead of spending time scrounging the below items, you can buy unlimited amounts of Scent of Marr from 3 different vendors: Lyth Spellstar in East Commons is in a hut beside the inn closest to the West Commons zoneline, Hanlore Escaval is in the Herb Jar in South Qeynos, and a clockwork merchant is in Ak'Anon's Library Mechanamagica (loc 1075, -1040, near Tergon Brenclog). Lyth and Hanlore are on Qeynos Caster faction (Order of Three), and the clockwork merchant is on Ak'Anon Caster faction (Eldritch Collective). Faction work, sneaking or wolf form may be needed in order to shop from them.
Simply reading the page tells you three places to get the stuff with NO expansions at all.

Aye, the page on celestial essence would be very confusing to a first time visitor. It says the recipe is celestial solven and a research component...then the big table says "These work for Celestial Solvent", which I would take to mean "these items can be used in place of celestial solvent."

It is misleading...the wording definitely needs to be changed.

This is a great pull form the recipe page for access to Scent of Marr. But the poor lad needs Celestial Solvent. And, like Lilosh, I'm not sure there is a place to get solvent without PoP.

If anyone DOES know of a source of Celestial Solvent outside of the PoP expansion (ie: Old World), it would be uber to add to the Celestial Essence recipe page.
