  • Trophy didn't evolve

I pushed one of my other characters up to 300 Tailoring today and noticed that the Trophy didn't auto-evolve from Expert(5/7) to Master(6/7).

From my experiences, trophies, except for 7/7, auto-evolve at a certain skill level. I have seen this happen many times. It didn't happen this time. I suppose it's possible I didn't have it equipped for a combine or two along the way but I doubt it.

Between Kolossus, my Rogue and now this toon I have hit 300 in a skill 9 times. This is the 1st time I have been at 300 without a Master(6/7) trophy.

I suppose it's possible the Master(6/7) trophy doesn't auto-evolve like the lower trophies. I did have a wonderful run of luck with the RNG. This may have been the 1st time I hit 300 in a skill without already having evolved the trophy via combines.

    I'm actually not sure.

Does anyone know if the Expert(5/7) trophy is supposed to evolve when you hit 300 skill or does it operate the same as the Master(6/7) trophy which requires a certain number of combines?

Yes it auto evolves. couple of things though. You say you pushed for 300, did you use cultural armor? if so, it is possible you outpaced the trophy, cultural armors have a skill up bonus that do kick in. also trophy evolving is notorious for having problems in guildhalls. thers a script problem in instanced zones.

Take a look down in primal scream and tailoring forums.. theres one or 10 other threads about this same thing. GOod news for you? now that you are 300, do less than 20 combines out in POK it wil evoilve at an accellerated rate to catch up.

I dont believe the trophies "auto evolve" as you describe but it may seem they do. Once your skill out-levels your trophy, the trophy continues to gain experience per successful combine at an accelerated rate until it catches up with you.

Normally, your trophy should reach its xp cap for evolving slightly before your skillups move to the point it can evolve, which will make it seem to evolve automatically. If your skill gains faster than average, such as through skillup bonuses from cultural armor combines or a run of luck v the RNG, you may have to do a few more combines until your trophy catches up.

None of the trophies "Auto evolve" at any skill level. They always require a set number of successful, non-trivial combines to evolve. However, this number is set to be the expected number of combines it will take you to get the 50 points worth of skill ups in that range. So they do match you very closely as long as you have average luck.
If your tropy gets ahead of you, it stops evovling and waits for you to catch up. If you get ahead of your trophy (as you did) it accelerates to 11x evolution speed so it can catch up.
The four main causes of getting ahead of your trophy are:
        1) You did skill ups in instances (guild hall is the most likely culprit, but it could happen if you did combines in any instance while farming for parts). Instances don't always load all the script data properly, so anything that uses a script can fail. This is not actually a frequent problem, but with instances being opened around the clock, it's much more likely to happen with an instance than a regular zone, and then since a very small fraction of the population has access to that zone, it's not likely to be noticed (as compared to when a server had bad data for PoK last week and it was noticed by many people).
        2) Skilling up on Intricate, Sacred, Elaborate, or Eminent combines. These combines have a bonus chance to get a skill up (5% for the Intricate/Sacred, 10% for Elaborate/Eminent). This can sigificantly reduce the number of combines you do to get from 250 to 300, but won't effect how fast your trophy evolves.

        3) Skilling up on high trivial combines that you have a high chance of failing at. The trophy only evolves on successful combines, but with high enough stats you have have an equal chance of getting skill ups from failures as you do successes. Likely combines that you might have run into this problem for tailoring would be seals for the type 12 augs, or the higher trivial elaborate pieces (which would hit your trophy on both reason 2 and reason 3).

        4) Luck. In the end, you could have just plain gotten lucky with your run of skill ups and beat your trophy. I am much happier when I beat my trophy than I am when it beats me. That means I did fewer combines than I was expected to need to do. And as I said before, once you get to the next skill level, your trophy accelerates to 11x speed, so I still will end up doing fewer than I was expected to.

I had noticed that when you beat a trophy to a level it would evolve almost immediately thereafter. Based on the speed, I had guessed it was 'auto-evolving' to catch up.

I tested this and sure enough I was wrong.

As pointed out by Roanne and Bobaten, the trophy doesn't auto-evolve, the exp rate just increases by a factor of 10. The % exp rate goes from 1%/10 combines to approximately 1%/combine.

          Problem solved. Trophy evolved.

Thx for the help all. -Kolossus.

Your approximations are correct, but please note:

The trophies evolve 11 times faster when one tier below (21 times when two tiers, 31 times when three tiers, etc...).

The actual number of combines required to evolve each % is based on a number of factors: your un modified skill, the trivial level of the combine (which has to be greater than your unmodified skill) and which tradeskill you are working. And lastly, only successes count.
