  • Templates useable?

Hello, Sorry if I missed it already posted.

The only thing I found was "these are not used that this time sell them back to the vendor"

These do not stack worth a crap and are marked used for tradeskills

Now I know these combines were nicely made to help the horrid skill-up path on a few tradeskills and I thank you but ....

Was it done on purpose for these not to stack hardly at all?

I really would hate to sell all these marked "tradeskill useable" back to vendor and 2 weeks from now, they can be used to make something else I need. And then the item drops become rare after I do sell them

Is it that the receipe has not been found? Or will they not be used and are miss marked? Or are the combines just not going to be in game until the new release?

    Thanks
    Keara

I just finished JC to 300 and have a gazillion gem thingies for robe combines I don't have much room left to hold combine stuff

Think of it this way. The templates could have been made non-stacking at all. Instead, Ngreth was nice enough to make some of them stack a little bit.

Several of the templates have no tradeskill use at this time. They may eventually get a use, but if they do, it will be in the far future. I'd personally suggest selling all of ones that don't have a use now. With Ngreth in charge, we'll get plenty of warning when he decides to make them useful, and you can start stockpiling then.

its not that I am stockpiling to make uber selling items. What I ment was, I forget what I had before, I ended up selling something I made at one time and then once I did later kicked myself because I could have used them later for something else. I am just interested in not selling something I could use later. I am doing ts for my charm, I don't make items to sell cept to help get money to use for skill-ups.

Which templates are you referring to? The tiers that are currently not used for armor? The slots that currently do not have armor?

Also, the templates themselves are the skill up path. If all you are looking for is to raise your skills to 300, then you just need to make templates. Some can be reused in other combines, but those have all been identified that currently exist.

Yes you can use some to make armor for "additional" combines to attempt to raise your skill, some with bonus modifiers at higher levels, but they require rarer drops also.

Restated, the question is why are items with no other use marked "This item can be used in tradeskills."?

Why does a Salty Loam, Natural Spinneret Fluid, or Coarse Silk Belt Template have the tag?

We, the semi-professional tradeskillers, all know its because they fit a pattern of recipes intended to have further tradeskill use even if *most* of them do not (at this time). The amateur or non-tradeskiller does not necessarily realize this, however; and when he or she makes a template that says, "This item can be used in tradeskills." he or she naturally presumes it might be worth holding on to for later skillups or selling to recoup cost for someone who's ready to make the next level combine.

Ideally the items with no further use should not carry the tag. These are hardly the only examples in game but I dont think it counts as a priority issue needing fixing when finite developer time is an issue (nor do I think it would take that much time to fix in the case of the easily identified offenders).

Im just saying the new system is not well explained nor well documented from within the game and I can see why this is confusing to people who dont habitate these or the official tradeskill forums.

That's a pretty good point, Roanne. It might be worth bumping this thread after the expansion launches so Ngreth can see it and decide whether he wants to make any changes (assuming he's too busy fixing any outstanding problems before SoF goes live).

I think all the old alchemy components that are no longer used in tradeskills still carry the tag. I remember they did at one point, don't ever remember seeing those were changed.

I just did a few pristine and fine tailoring combines last night about 20 of them, the templates they made say " can be used in tradeskills". Atm I am not logged in to check exactly which is what its just off the top of my head.

That is what I am asking about. And those only stacked to 3, one of them was still stacking at 5. Like I said I only did a few but that is what they stacked to on what I did and where marked usable still.

At the moment, Sullied, Crude, Fine, and Pristine (and their matching equivalents for smithing) are the only ones with an actual armor combine. All other tiers can make templates, but except for those 4 tiers, the templates are vendor trash for now.

Pristine is not used. Superb is used.

As far as the stacking, that has been mentioned elsewhere that the stacking on these templates are not your standard, everything stacks to 20 or doesn't stack.

There is another thread that lists the stacking limitations for templates. It is dependent on the size of the template (how many of the dropped component it uses) as well as the material.

From what I recall (numbers are for plate, chain/leather, silk)
                    If uses 3 drops (6 silks) = 1, 2, 3
                    If uses 2 drops (4 silks) = 3, 6, 9
                    If uses 1 drop (2 silks) = 5, 10, 15

Un-marking things is on my whiteboard to do. Has been for a while. I have just been a bit busy with an expansion coming.

But... it is too much for me to ask QA to do this close to launch, so i am holding off on making the change.

I am also considering cutting off the drops of loam/marrow/spin.. that are not currently being used (considering... not committed)

Would it help for people to post on the eqforums or /bug in game items that are believed to no longer have a use in tradeskilling but are still tagged? I say believed, because there is the possibility that the recipe is yet undiscovered for some items and people have just not gotten around to finding it. This would potentially help generate a list of not only the new cultural template/armor items, but also any of the items that no longer work because of revamps/changes to the other tradeskills...always hear about alchemy having many like that

I don't have a need for the new template / cultural stuff. I was better at making comments in the database (we have some internal database fields for comments) that helped me decide what to change (I have the changes prepared in a spreadsheet. I just can't justify putting the changes in the database at this time as I do not feel it is important enough to put in over our design lock fro release) It will probably be one of the things I do Wednessday... paste in the changes.

                          Outside of that. Sure.
