Not to throw cold water on the burning flame of invention, but I would think a tradeskill UI is obsolete. Now that you can run EQ in a window you can browse EQ Traders and get the info hot off the press. Plus you have access to the merchant list, pop up a map from EQ Atlas, etc.

On the contrary Deeger - I use EQTC and still find it really useful to have in-game recipes. Sure, I can window out if I have to, but I prefer to just have the recipe sitting there in front of me, in game, so that I can just go about my business without having to pop back and forth between EQ and a browser. Perhaps if my screen were a LOT bigger, I'd just have both up and displayed at once, but until then...

not to mention that just because some users can ALT+Enter to run in windowed mode, does not mean that all of us can do so. (instant crash, k thnx la~)

Re: Re
Umm, we do. The command /note opens a free text note window, which creates a text file in the EQ folder. It is the same kind of text entry as the other text windows, meaning it doesn't work like a word processor. But it is handy for jotting down notes.Originally posted by kiatekI never understood why we couldn't have a "notebook" in game to scribble down recipes there !

No alt-tabbing for me either...
I only have a mere 512MB of RAM ( that's a half a GIGABYTE mind you... ) and my memory manager says I have 1MB free if I try to alt-tab out of EQ. Opening a web browser is... slow at best. Sometimes it just hangs, sometimes crashes EQ...
Let's just say "no alt-tabbing for me"

Guess its good to see all these responses! Well, I tried to finish up Baking while hunting on Saturday and it seemed not to work so trying to fix it out of the bugs and then continue, possibly because the file is huge (had locs and etc. on it also) but We'll see and ill post here later on the info65 Druid

I couldn't fit all the Baking recipes on one page...I'd like to ask--would this still be accessable for all of you even if they're dividied into -- say three pages? possibly four? I'm going to release them as I complete them PER tradeskill so that you can use them as I get completed, and then release a full one at the end

Tradeskill mod for UI
A long time ago when the UI first went live I started work on a tradeskill mod for the UI so that I could have recipies in game. I even got it working and it still is downloaded from the only place it is hosted which is
http://www.eqinterface.com
BUT the one problem I found is that the way I did it, no matter how streamlined I tried to be no matter what else I did, it took FOREVER to update it even the tiniest bit.
I have since given up on the mod and use eqtc as mentioned above even tho it isn't quite as up to date as it could be.
The best advice I can give you is make sure you can update update update cause much of this information changes daily and large influxes or changes happen what seems to be monthly and you are commiting yourself to alot of updating if its not simple and easy to do.Kathara Lytefoot

Still hoping tailoring will go over 200 sometime

Anything that can be done in the UI is a good thing
Athlon 1.4 or 1.5 gigabyte processor
512 megabytes of DDR memory.
And the way that windowed mode works, according the info from Win XP's system resource monitor, is it uses 100% of the processor, and barely touches the system page file, and the memory useage is nominal. The fact that EQ uses 100% of the processor is what makes the system CHOKE when you try to do something else.
Whenever I minimize EQ, and go to open something else (I.E. is notoriously bad), I assume that I will crash in doing so, and hope that I do not.

There was a bug, feature, whatever, that certain processes would automatically hog all the processor, but didn't keep a tight grip and would release cycles quickly when required. I find opening a new window slow myself, but it's not terribly painful and have yet to crash doing it.Originally posted by LiloshAthlon 1.4 or 1.5 gigabyte processor

I crash every time. my memory manager says .oo1 meg then freezez system tight
Great feature if it worked
lol might not be a good idea but i save all my current recipie pages to desktop. so i dont have to load up every time. even tho i have dsl it's still pulling bandwith if i log on every 10 minutes to verify something.
this also removes all the back ground info when displayed since i dont save the pics and back ground. this makes for much better printingRao's gear
Retired from EQ on or around Septemeber 06.
Harp's gear
PS. Molto Has retired. EQ2 has lured core group away.
I quit the game I loved because it wasn't anymore. Guilds allowing farmers in because they could do a lot of damage in raids.
SoE not really doing anything about farmers, macroquesters ect.
Still Some of my favorite times spent online happened in Norath. The friends and mobs I remember fondly.

Be Sure =)
Ever, I'd just like to say that I think ANY effort put forward into making trade skill recipes easily accessable while in game is absolutely fabulous!
However with that said I think you should consider how much time and effort you are willing to put into all of this...especially with the issue of updates that has been brought up.
I am not a programmer so I don't know what is truly involved with building a UI. But, if your mod can allow the user to easily update information on their own then Wha Hoooo! The folks using it will be happy and you will not have the headache of updating and dealing with copious requests from users.
If building this UI makes you happy, then don't look for approval from others. Do it or don't.
Good luck and be well!
