Can someone outline for me exactly what I need to do to make the top level cultural tailored armor now? My tailoring skill is 262 unmod and with trophy goes over 275 or whatever. Can I get the top level book yet?

I tried talking to my hometown cultural tailoring NPC and did the quest where you turn in 4 items to get the Ancestral book (halfling in my case). But he no longer gives me the next quest for armor (which I never finished but removed recently) after that (used to be kill 120 stillmoon creatures and collect 80 fractured drake claws). Do I still need to get this quest or can I buy a book for something from POK now? I don't see the top level book on vendors yet, do I need a 275 skill (mod or unmod?) to see it?

What drops are needed to make the highest level armor sets?

Thanks for any info, just a little confused - I was fairly new to the OLD system and now I'm real confused about the NEW system. I'm trying to pick things up from the messages here but need some help.

You only need the ancestrial book to make the tailoring armor patterns.Its been posted that you need 275 skill to see the books on the merchant in PoK.Not sure if thats modified or not. Elaborate silk templates use surperb silk.

The skill required to get the book for Elaborate armor in PoK is 275 unmodified skill.

The hometown quest NPC gave you the book for Ancestral Halfling Armor and that is used in a book binding, just like it used to be, to create the backpack full of patterns. You still need the halfling pattern. The other quests he gives out (the used to be 120 stillmoon thing) is for a book used to create the patterns for symbols.

You will need to gather Superb Animal Pelts and use them to create Superb Leather <slot> Templates. The number of pelts is dependent on the slot. The pelt is the only drop, the rest are vendored. The books for this probably are not available yet from the armor historian, but this combine can be experimented and learned and can be done in ANY sewing kit.

After you create your template, you will need to gather Excellent Marrow. This is combined with the template you created with the armor pattern from your Ancestral book and a few other vendor items to create the armor. It is only 1 Marrow no matter what slot.

If you wish to also create a symbol to go in the armor, you will need 1 Superb Animal Pelt and 1 Excellent Marrow and those are combined with the pattern from the book from the hometown NPC (the used to be 120 stillmoon quest). and some other vendor components.


The new system is 2 separate things. It is a smooth, continuous skill up path of templates for smithing and tailoring. Select levels of templates are then combined with a secondary drop to create armor. The drops are "global" and restricted by the mobs level and type. Spiders for silk, animals for pelts, golems for ore. Humanoid models have a chance to drop any. There is a good chart in the Tradeskill Guides section that has been put together with the Template drop item, Armor drop item, trivial levels, mob levels, and vendor items that correspond to each.

Thanks a bunch, I think I understand now.

But it sounds like I need to get 8 more skillups in order to do the highest level stuff now? Ouch. Can't do the recipes until you can scribe them from the book is what I heard here somewhere I think.

But you don't need the 300+ recipes to actually skill up. Check out the lower level books, with say, 290 and 300 trivials and you can make those templates instead.
