The varying stack sizes drive me insane. I recently came back from a long EQ break, so maybe it's just me since I'm still not used to it, but I don't tend to check what the stack size of an item is before buying it - I usually shoft+click and then realize my mistake and start cursing. I'd finally gotten down that some things stack to 100, and had a good idea of what sort of things were likely to do so (though I still unpleasantly suprise myself sometimes), but 9 and 3 item stacks? Why are they suddenly trying to play the realism card with these new items? Why make stupid stacking rules, when items in stacks still only weigh as much as a single item? Why worry about template stacking numbers when I can still stack bars of metal and gems, but not necklaces for some reason? Does it seem even vaguely realistic to anyone that my character can not only carry, but funtion at peak efficiency with 8 enormous backpacks on at once?

This is just a silly and obnoxious change, to my mind.

You are looking at it from the wrong angle. Rather than "Why do they only stack to 3?" you should be thinking "Woot! they stack (even if it is only to 3)"
Before when the choice was stack to 20, or don't stack at all, most of this stuff would be in the category of don't stack at all. Because they can now have different stack sizes, they are willing to let us stack a few. A stack of three is 3 times better than not stacking at all.

Ya, at least it's not like back before metal plates stacked...when you'd have to run back and forth between High Pass and East Freeport to do your smithing...through Kithcor at night...in the rain...and uphill both ways.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that I could at least stack the templates after I made them. Need to figure out bags a bit, though.

                  Comfirmed merchant locations for Felwithe:

Smithing Template (i.e. where you get "coal"):
Tanalin Silverkale, upstairs in Shop of All Holos

                  Smithing Cultural:
                  Opal Leganyn, inside Emerald Armor

Tailoring Template (i.e. where you get simple needle):
                  Merchant Tissan, inside Faydark's Bane

                  Tailoring Cultural:
Chenori Berinal, downstairs in Paladin Guild

Therefore quite sure that the "coal" merchants are in hometowns as well (even if not in every hometown). Note that "coal" is sold on *Old Blue Diamond Smithing Cultural* merchant in Felwithe. For those races with BD smithing cultural, that may be the first merchant to check in your hometown.

Anyway. Thanks again for all the work. And the fact that you do listen and communicate with posters both here and on the EQ forums is definitely appreciated.

While we may not always agree with you, at least you give a reasoned response (for at least the first 10-20 replies to the same question ).

Although I got Felwithe totally worked out, I am baffled by Kelethin. Can't find either the smithing or tailoring *template* merchants. Can only find the cultural merchants.

I am pretty sure I got template patterns from one of the tailoring merchants in the main hub of the bazaar.

Found the Tailoring Template merchant (i.e. the one who sells Simple Sewing Needle) in Kelethin. It's Merchant Aluwenae across rope bridge from newbie lift.

Still can't find the Smithing Template merchant (i.e. the one who sells coal) in Kelethin.

Yes, there is a merchant for Tailoring Templates in the main hub of bazaar.

For PoK, there are 1 Tailoring and 2 Smithing Template (both in pool area)merchants.

For the pass of "emergency" fixes I just went for things that were totally missing.

Later (probably post SoF) I will look more into making "all parts" available in each city.

My method was "find an NPC that already sells "patterns" and add them to them.

since I only used one pattern/mold of each type to find these NPC's some may not be represented for each starting city. So I will have to go back in a more manual process to find appropriate NPC's

Right now it may be inconvenient to get patterns part, but at least it is available to you somewhere.
