  • Questions Regarding New Cultural Recipes

    1. Has anyone found "coals" in cities other than Cresent Reach, Abysmal Sea, and Plane of Knowledge?

    2. Has anyone noticed the significant reduction in skillup rates with the new cultural templates? (using mostly excellent and some superb)

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,

    Kindof

I havent looked for any of the vendor materials yet (the market for cultural is in an overall slump except people making it for their alts until new SoF recipes hit by my prediction) so I cant speak to the location of coals.

The reduction in skillup rate youre experiencing is likely because the new recipes dont include a min skillup chance like the old ones did. Im happy to trade the skillup bonus off for no min fail rate, however.

Cultural ITSELF still has the bonus. Templates do not. Equate the templates to swatches. Swatches never had skillup bonuses either.

How about "coal" vendor locations? Limiting "coal" vendors to 3 cities make cultural combines a pita. Or did I somehow miss the "coal" vendor in Kaladim? By the way I found a tailoring supply vendor in Kaladim although dwarfs do not have a need for tailoring supplies.

As far as skillup rate I was not expecting skillup bonus but 2 skillups in 379 excellent and superb template combines is reminiscent of my shadowscream days.... having a run of 1089 combines without a skillup.

The modified tailoring skill on my drakkin tailor was 302 when I started my skillup run. I did about 90% excellent wrist templates with with trival of 310 and the balance with superb wrist templates with trival of 348. Should I continue to expect 1 skill up in 180 combines or did RNG get the better of me? I also did more than 20 successful elaborate leather and silk combines on my drakkin without a skillup.

          Coal in Ak Anon

I've only tried the new cultural recipes with my gnome so far. She was able to find the coal and templates (and some of the other buyable parts) by the smith supplier near the forge. I can't remember the name, but it is the one in the building the town crier stands outside of.

            Coal

I have noticed coal and other like supplies on merchants in home cities that typically carry the cultural stuff.

              Poor skill up rates...

I am noticing the poor rates for skilling up as well. I have been working on tailoring using Fine Silk, Fine Animal Pelts, Exceelent Silks, and Excellent Animal Pelts. The odd thing for me was when I did 200 silk template combines in a row and got no skill ups. I then did the same number of leather combines and got 8 skill ups. Was this just a string of bad luck with the RNG? It just seemed odd to me that in ALL the silk combines I have done so far I have not gotten a SINGLE skill up. On the flip side of it my trophy got xp the entire time.

Just for the record my skill was 255 when I started all those combines.

I saved up around 300 combines worth before the patch. Got me one skill up (296). Of course, the next 150 combines I bought over the next 2 days got me the other 4 skill ups. Which isn't any different than the last time I went to 300 in tailoring, and had a run of 200+ at 292...or the run of 180 I had in JC at 250 skill...or the 1000+spells I made between 290 and 300 in research....
In short, the RNG is mean.

If anyone's met the vendors in Kelethin (other than the normal tailoring merchant, who now sells cultural threads) that sell smithing coal, smithing and/or tailoring patterns etc, I'd be most grateful for the tip off!

the template patterns are only sold in POK, Abysmal Sea, and CR , afaik.
the armor patterns/molds are from your normal cultural quest. I did search Kelethin just yesterday, the vendor who used to sell cultural stuff, now sells the new cultural stuff, including all the various new threads.

The patterns are there for skillups.
I am fairly certain that the tread is needed for the symbols, which you can make with tailoring as a dwarf if you so desire.

When I can I will try and get more of the stuff to more places.

For quick fixes I am more concerned about stuff that is totally missing.

I would like suggestions for each city which merchant by name you would like to see the stuff on. Cultural metals and threads should stay where they are... but the template patterns and the fuels (coal, filament) and tempering / tanning stuff I am happy to put in other spots.

While having to zone around for stuff is inconvenient it is just that, inconvenient. It is not actually gating you.

Proposed Location For Dwarven Cultural Supplies

Could I suggest that as an alternate to the metal vendors in the mines in KaladimB, that the patterns and coal be placed on one of the vendors next to the cultural forge in KaladimA. The corresponding tailoring stuff is already in the building directly behind in KaladimA

                            Thanks

I think I saw them in Thurgadin too.

The robe and legging templates only stack to 3. I do find it frustrating that they don't all stack to the same quantity. I do understand the roleplay perspective but feel that this was one aspect that was unnecessary.
