  • New Smithing & Tailoring Drops

I thought the drops needed for the revised DoN cultural smithing and tailoring were going to be global drops. There were, in fact, drops in BoT prior to the Oct 4 patch. However, I was there for a couple of hours this morning, and not one item dropped.

So, where can we expect this stuff to be dropping?

Its been said many times, its not "global" in the sense of every mob everywhere. Golem body types for loam/ore, spider body types for silks, can't recall, but assume animal body type for hides, and then humanoid mobs can drop any of them.

Giants are probably not considered humanoid.

Yup. global is geneiric term. There are still "rules" that gow with the global drops. The rules are similar to what Abazagaroth mentioned.

The rules do not seem to apply with the new drops. In TBS we have had silks, ore, marrow and hides drop from pirates. Perhaps it is because they have robbed them from other mobs /shrug.

Also collecting permafrost crystals in everfrost I found the same thing, everything dropping off the goblins.(lower level stuff of course)

            Well, since Pirates are humanoid...

Humanoids (like goblins and pirates) are intelligent enough to "collect" any of the valuable items for TS, so when you kill a humanoid, it has a chance to drop any of the appropriate-level items.

I had silk droping from a pain golems in Zhisza instance. Are they considered humanoid too because it seemed pretty clear golems were intended for ore drops. Are they both humanoid and golem? or is something still wrong?

All the golems in Zhisza are flagged as humanoid (which is annoying because anti summoned/construct nukes don't land).

I also had some ore dropping from the various spiders in the Valdeholm pit last night (as well as a little hides and lots of silk). Are they flagged humanoid also?

It seems to me the likely scenario is only humanoids, spiders, animals, and golems are having cultural drops now but all 4 categories are getting the humanoid table. I havent hunted enough of the various types to be sure but every type Ive hunted has shown an unexpected result.

Some day, probably after the expansion, I will be going through and fixing many of the NPC's that are marked as humanoid and are NOT humanoid.

one easy way to check, if you are the proper class or know the proper class, is to try assasinate/heartshot... which only works on humanoids.

Aren't those random events though? So how would you know if you don't have a humanoid or just have bad luck with the RNG?

Actually Heartshot and Headshot (and possibly Assassinate) work on Humanoids and Animals.

A much easier way to check is use the Magelo NPC search, it displays Body types (and yes, Lakeskaters in Vald are all tagged as humanoid).
The biggest error I can think of is every golem in the Gates of Discord Expansion is tagged as Humanoid rather than Construct.
One final note..when you see multiple body type tags in Magelo, you can generally ignore the plant and animal tags, those are there because a druid or shaman changed the bodytype.
