  • My Imagination?

Was this my immagination, a bug, or a new concept?

I sold a couple of the Mechano Tablets, the ones with the pictures, to one of the two merchants in Corathus Creep. The merchant's inventory was not full. But when I looked to see my items appear in his inventory -- they did NOT.

In another thread there is a concept of some bazaar-only selling. This might be one way of implementing avoidance of merchant mining.

Oy, before rumors start that SOE is nerfing vendor-diving / merchant -mining...

the code you were referring to, as I understand it, is for the purpose of "hiding" merchant inventory of cultural related items by skill-restriction, ie: someone with, say 223 Tailoring skill, will see any supplies & books related to combines 200 skill & below, but not the 250+ cultural stuff...

Right now, the new cultural drops will not have any merchant resale value, as Ngreth had stated, but that has nothing to do with the code mentioned above.

      ---

Hopefully, we can perhaps convince Ngreth and Maddoc to reconsider on teh no-merchant-resale value for the new cultural drops, hehe...

Vendor-diving may not be something the Devs ever thought of as part of the EQ experience, but it is a fun mini-game all in itself....I was thrilled this morning when I found several low-med-high quality pelts, a few BDs, a couple of CDDs, etc, nothing of super high value, but what I found made me happy

It's loads of fun to do the rounds and discover an item here and there, that you can either use for your tradeskilling, give to a friend or sell in bazaar for a nice little profit, it's sort of like a treasure hunt, and I'm kinda sad when some items have no vendor value, it's one less treasure I'll be able to find

There's also been discussion, whenever players brought up the topic of rotating stock on vendors at the Fan Faires, of having merchants auto-destroy items that are only cash loot, with no quest, tradeskill, or other uses. That's been an ultra-low-priority, though, particularly since the quest and TS flags on items are pretty new, and they're not always reliable.

I'm also all for adding some merchant resale value and retaining vendor-diving.

What Kyros here said is what I was implying. It would just "auto-destroy" stuff that has no other use, not everything.

So far it has not progressed past the idea stage.

I love finding the little things! I'm such a packrat that I even when I visit vendors that another vendor-diver just barely checked, I can find something they didn't want - "Ooh, another porous mineral block for my little gnome! Yay!"

How do you know the merchant wasn't full? One of the three merchants there has a whopping *1* free slot. So 1 item sold to it and its full.

Hmm, sounds like a very nice concept Ngreth. But, that could lead to "merchant camping" in the bazaar, PoK and other high traffic zones. It is the personal knowledgebase of the player that lets them seperate the wheat from the chaff on merchants right now. I'd hate to see some non-tradeskilling gouger making the rounds and hoovering up all the tradeskill items from the NPC merchants.
Possibly if you consider implementing it with a degree of randomness instead of automaticly destroying as soon as cash loot stuff is sold to NPC merchants. As an example (I have no idea of how difficult it would be to code or even if possible to do within time/labor allowed) if all the NPC merchants in a zone had their cash loot stock randomly destroyed 4 times in a 24 hour period.

Anyway thats my 2 coppers... now to get some coffee in my bloodstream then back to those thrice cursed MCS... $&^%$@()$

I would like to see more diversity on what the merchants sell. Many times there are two merchants standing next to each other and they sell the same things, or at least 80% the same.

Give us more room on the merchants for player sold stuff perhaps?
