  • Curious about the Global File (?)

    Suggestions in the past about game wide data (player models, armor, pets, mounts etc) were met with an answer along the lines of "the global file does not have the capacity" or something similar....

    With Legends of Norrath, that issue seems to have gone away (many illusions previously confined to a few zones, many new mounts).

    Are options suggested in the past that could be tradeskilled now possible? I am thinking particularly about armor affecting appearance and my very own tinkered rat pet.....

    Does Legends of Norrath open the door for imaginative ideas for Tradeskillers without the technical confines that were once present?

      I think that comment was to do with horses, but you might be right. There was another thread some time ago about what was in the global file, but im struggling to find it...

          I have little control over the global file. As it is, I do not know how they fit in the things they have when most of what I hear is "there is no room". Probably more a mandate from "high above" that this "must be done" for the card game.

          I just know that they do not willy nilly do that, it takes much consideration.

          Now that said, when we eventually get groups of PC models with shared animation over to new graphics, EQ will possibly get some global space free where I can possibly convince them to put in some space for at least one of the NPC with a clockwork mat. If I do, I will seriously consider fluff pets. It will be much more difficult to convince me of pets that do something though because we really do not want to impinge on the pet classes. So if they do do something they will be rather underpowered.

            In before the avalanche.....

            Speaking just as a Tinker, and without knowing what else is planned, the only fluff options for a Tinkered Pet would be to utilize existing game mechanics, for example a small buff to resists, perhaps a percentage increase to Tinkering (Trophy plus 1% or something) or maybe even Forage if that (finally?) gets introduced to all toons. Forage would probably be my favourite "role playing" aspect as the pet could vacuum up items from the ground, similar to the cleaners and dusters in Ak'Anon.

            A quest to add a clicky summon pet to the Trophy would be awesome. Alternatively, a mini-mouse inventory item would also look perfect!!

            As all this is dependant on acceptable new human models I assume, it might still be a long while waiting :/

              Ngreth...now's the perfect chance to sneak some models into the global file...wink-wink, nudge-nudge!

              Actually I'm not exactly sure what I'd want in there even if it were possible.

                After this card game goes into the game, never again do I ever want to hear any dev or player quote roleplaying as a reason *not* to do something. That is all.
