  • Cultural Armor Guidance, Please

    Hi,

    I've been working very hard on my "simple" Barbarian/Shaman cultural armor and am very confused and frustrated as to what to do next to make the augments.

    Do the "blessed" symbols/augments still require Jade Shards and Warbone Chips?

    Is there guidance in game, or here, on the new cultural armor quests? For example, from here I learned that I'd be looking for bones and mammoths in Everfrost, but the Halas quest giver sent me to Guk and East Karana (Crag spiders) to gather "impressions"...that all worked fine and I've made the patterns...but where in-game do I learn what to do next?

    I did buy two Jade Shards in the bazaar (15pp each, though I passed on the two going for 450pp EACH) and two Tribunal waters and combined in jewelry kit....but failed

    So, my other question is what skill do I need in jewelry to make this combine?

    Thank you,

    Gilud, 27 Shaman

    Firstly, the differences between the info you found for the quests and the actual quest given are due to changes made in a recent patch which changed how the quests work.

    Secondly, information regarding the recipes/steps for cultural symbols is all available on the website. Look under Quests for Dragons of Norrath. This page contains a complete walkthrough of the steps to make DoN cultural armor and symbols. Clicking on your race will bring up a walkthrough for the OLD versions of the quests, and at the bottom is a list of drops. These drops are for making the armor, and correspond to the armor type (chain, plate, silk, or leather) and level of the person the armor is for. Symbol components are the same, except for different waters depending on the diety of the person the symbol will be worn by.

    Note: You will have to substitute the new names for symbol/armor tiers for the old ones on those pages. They are as follows:
    For Symbols:
    * Journeyman = Blessed
    * Expert = Revered
    * Master = Sacred
    * Grandmaster = Eminent
    For Armor:
    * Journeyman = Simple
    * Expert = Ornate
    * Master = Intricate
    * Grandmaster = Elaborate

    Also Note: These recipes will soon be receiving a major overhaul which will change the dropped components, and also possibly change the steps required to make the pieces. So try not to stockpile too many supplies.

      Yes, thank you, I was working from the walk through.

      However, since the actual quest that I got for getting the symbol book was different than the one described in the walk through, I wanted to check to see if the drops for the "blessed" symbols had changed.

      So, you're saying they will change? It's unlikely that I'll stockpile Jade Shards or Warbone Chips considering how difficult they seem to be to find

      Maybe I'll wait to see what the new drops will be

      Hopefully there will be guidance in-game, as I saw a post that there will receipe books available. It was quite...annoying when I got the symbol pattern book, which had some instruction in it on how to make the patterns...but nothing else about what to do with the patterns.

      Meanwhile, I can work on Jewelry skill for the combine of the component and the diety water...does anyone know what skill level is needed to make the blessed water?

      Thanks,

      Gilud, 27 Shaman

        There are books in came for the current stuff. I of course forget the where and the name, but they are out there. I will try and remember to check at work, but I have so much on my plate I tend to forget to check back here.

          Thank you, Ngreth.

          As I continue to ruminate, I seem to recall some books in the forge in Crescent Reach. I've been spending all my time as I've been working on the armor in Halas, but I'll check in CR this afternoon after work.

            Gilud, the trivial on the jewelry combine is 56. You can get to 50 or so with the freebie quest in Abysmal Sea, or just make a bunch of cheap silver + gemstone jewelry and resell it back to the vendors for a small loss. PoK just north of the main bank has a jewelry vendor with the silver and gemstones, I believe.

              Thanks Zolina. I've been doing the tradeskill freebie starter quests in Crescent Reach, and so will do the one for Jewelry now!

                need to convert old symbol books?

                I am stumped! I was going to make some master..err sacred symbol patterns, found my book "Sacred book of dark elven culture", gathered up the pieces to combine in the book binding, and of course that recipe wont work. Come back here and search for "sacred book" as the string, and no results. Do the same at Alla, and no results. I see the recipe here calls for "intricate book..." to make "sacred" patterns. So, is there a book conversion required to make the patterns?

                  Ok, there are five books total for each race. As an example for humans you would have:
                  Ancestral Human Armor
                  Blessed Book of Human Culture
                  Revered Book of Human Culture
                  Sacred Book of Human Culture
                  Eminent Book of Human Culture

                  There seems to have been a database mix up when they changed the names of the books. The sacred book should work if you are using the appropriate roll of "paper".

                  There are no Simple, Ornate, Intricate or Elaborate books in game.

                  To make patterns for silk/leather armor armor (all levels) you would need to combine:
                  Compacted Backpack, Large Bottle of Ink, Roll of Plain Parchment, A Quill, and your Ancestral Armor book in a Book Binding.

                  To make molds for plate/chain armor (all levels) you would need to combine:
                  Compacted Backpack, High Quality Firing Sheet, Huge Block of Clay, Sculpting Tools, and your Ancestral Armor book in a kiln or Tanaan kiln.

                  To make Blessed Symbol Patterns you would need to combine:
                  A Quill, Compacted Backpack, Large Bottle of Ink, Roll of Vellum, and your Blessed Book of XXXX Culture (there are no Simple Books in game) in a Book Binding.

                  To make Revered Symbol Patterns you would need to combine:
                  A Quill, Compacted Backpack, Large Bottle of Ink, Roll of Good Quality Vellum, and your Revered Book of XXXX Culture (there are no Ornate Books in game) in a Book Binding.

                  To make Sacred Symbol Patterns you need to combine:
                  A Quill, Compacted Backpack, Large Bottle of Ink, Roll of High Quality Vellum, and your Sacred Book of XXXX Culture (there are no Intricate Books in game) in a Book Binding.

                  To make Eminent Symbol Patterns you need to combine:
                  A Quill, Compacted Backpack, Large Bottle of Ink, Roll of Superb Vellum, and your Eminent Book of XXXX Culture (there are no Elaborate Books in game) in a Book Binding.

                  All the pattern recipes are similar but there are two differences with each one, the book you use AND the roll of material you will be using.

                  Ancestral Armor Patterns = Ancestral Armor book + Roll of Plain Parchment.
                  Blessed Symbol Patterns = Blessed book + Roll of Vellum.
                  Revered Symbol Patterns = Revered book + Roll of Good Quality Vellum.
                  Sacred Symbol Patterns = Sacred book + Roll of High Quality Vellum.
                  Eminent Symbols = Eminent book + Roll of Superb Vellum.

                    I have the eminent book. If I do not combine it with the item in a book binding to get the eminent patterns, would I be able to wait till SoF and make the new lvl 80 symbols? or is there going to be a completely long, boring new quest, that I could have waited to do instead of wasted many countless hours doing the elaborate one?

                        I did the new eminent impressions quest to get my eminent book. Why do you ask, is there another way?

                          maybe I am confusing things since I am not at work. You mentioned level 80 which confuses me, was wondering how you got the level 80 quest.

                          There is a separate quest for the level 80 symbols (nothing needed for the level 80 armor)

                            Eminent is the level 70 quest.

                            And the answer to the original question is: You will have to do a completly different (not yet available) quest to make level 80 symbols.
