  • Tradeskillers Guild

If it was technically possible, would you join such a guild? What advantages would you see if it was possible and it did not impact your current playstyle but enhanced it?
    • A Tradeskillers Guild - one per server.
    • Membership requires acknowledgement of a bill of rights (guild rules).
    • Requires achievement of at least Master level in one Tradeskill class
    • Unique title, either from Guild name or Skill level that is sortable / searchable in bazaar
    • Does not restrict a character from joining a "regular" guild
    • Names in Bazaar are a different colour and not generic "Trader"
Would such a community reduce the impact of exploits and bugs or at the very least provide community policing and awareness?

Sorry if I am getting the wrong idea here, but that last sentence makes it look like you want to police the tradeskillers?!? Is this your intention? Do you mean price-fixing or other anti-competitive stuff?

Personally I just don't see the advantage that doing this would bring? Yes, a new title (always nice) - but to make it searchable would require retooling the UI again... not needed really. And as to different coloured names... do people still run around in the bazaar with traders not being hidden???

I am not trying to flame your post - just really trying to see what you are truly proposing here.

      No and none.

      Most likely not.

I was trying to think of a way to solve many problems...

Policing was perhaps not the exact word, but as has been pointed out on the duping thread, sometimes it is good to have others in game to call upon to ask about unusual quantities; a guild of experts recognized as such by other gamers as opposed to level 1 bazaar mules who just bought a bunch of IGN stuff; contacts for cultural combines.

Searching the bazaar at the moment for reputable suppliers is a crap-shoot. I certainly wasn't looking for price controls. It would add to the role playing effect if you could join a trades guild as well as your own regular guild.

Most people sell on a 'bazzar mule', which would not be a member of this 'guild' anyways. A person could claim 'well, this is only my bazaar mule, not my main, who is indeed in the guild'.

As for the rest of your arguments, they're already solved. Run around flying the Master Artisan+ tags, people will know you're a tradeskiller. Skill level already gives you titles. It's pointless to try and search for it in the baz because people don't tie up their mains selling stuff.

found this site... but it seems a bit out of date... only goes up to 65 titles, but it does include up to 300 skill TS titles.

Try this link for up to date tradeskills: Complete Tradeskill Guide 4.0 (rev.7/2007)

The guides posted outside of the forum are older and many are outdated.

I think he is refering to the fact that at each 50 point interval in each skill you get a new title as well as when you reach the that interval in the 7 primary skills you also get a title.

                  Apprentice Artisan
                  Journeyman Artisan
                  Master Artisan

I thought about making a tradeskilling guild a very long time ago, far before I started raiding.

I couldnt come up with obvious benefits other then to have people to talk to in channel who were doing the same thing I was doing. When first able, I just made a couple channels and resolved that issue.

Any perk that I can think of, can be counter"perked".

So although it sounded like a great idea, I'd probably not join a tradeskilling "guild" even if it would coincide with my raiding guild

With bank space the way it is, my trader and my trade skiller have to be different characters. It's not a bad idea, but I doubt it would take off from what I am reading in this thread anyway.

The fact that we have titles we can choose helps some see that we indeed have the skill to try a combine for them.

As far as selling goes, putting up a consistent merchant in the bazaar can tell people who you are and what you do. There is a lot of word of mouth of my server as well. Before the bazaar was big, I had a few friends who I got supplies from via trade for more tradeskill items. I need to find more of those. pp transactions are annoying to me, give me supplies!

For me, I do a little bazaar selling just to rid myself of things, and my main big combines are either for guild mates, or are done on the spot with the person standing there or fetching me things that I need. I am not much of a pre-make and sell kind of artist. My prices are dirt cheap, but I figure if they bring me the things and are willing to stand around and wait till I am darn well ready to do it for them, they are probably using the items themselves.

I am sure many remember the Clockwork Tinkers Union guild?

I was always impressed with them when I was a "young'un" killing rats in Steamfont. I had hoped with changes to the guild hall, instances, fellowships and so on over the years that the ability to be a member in more than one guild would some day be a possibiity.

The other problem I would love to resolve is finding a tradeskiller by something other than word of mouth. Searching and filtering by title (in fact improving the whole /who process would help in so many small ways).

As far as the comments that we already have titles - most people I know turn names off, let alone guild tags and titles. I cannot think of a more ridiculous notion for RPG than having someone run around with a title over their head. The performance / lag hit associated with shownames on is well documented.

The issue with bazaar mules selling Tradeskillers wares is more difficult to resolve, however inherited tags, or a guild look up tool, or even Norrath's Yellow Pages would solve this.

Go to EQPlayers or EQRankings adn you can search for tradeskills by race/server/class if you need. Then just take a few names and try and contact them in game either by putting on friends list or the in game emails.

Someone else mentioned that, but I think it must be above my subscription level or something as I just get a begging for money window up.

Grim/Squeaky had a good idea with the CPPP and in game emails, but I am assuming that it was hard to manage or it is still in the tweaking stage.

If I really wanted, I could do the Alt-N Storyline thing with my own data, and based on the current interest level (i.e. close to zero) I might do that instead.

EQRankings still works. The data may be a little old, but for the most part, it is still a solid reference and is free. The other thing you might try is posting in the marketplace section on these forums on your server if you are in need of someone to make something for you.

Send me a tell in game if you need my help making anything.
