Yeah, but there's a difference between "we're not doing it because we don't like the idea" and "we're not doing it because it would take all our programmers together two years of non-stop work to make it happen." The former is relatively easy to fix. The latter, not so much.

Ok, one more round of thoughts, then I'll shut up:
This COULD be done just by storing the items in the bazaar system in a DB, without going the whole route of converting the entire inventory storage into one. I present this because it would also open the door to the StationExchange working for EQ. This might present a big enough win for the team to consider putting in the effort to make this happen.
However, it would still require almost all the resources that the StationExchange would use for real-money auctions, duplicated for in-game money bazaar-like functionality (as you wouldn't want to mix them). This makes me think that putting EQ1 on the StationExchange will happen before any kind of in-game offline selling system. Putting in the effort for a probable return makes sense, copying that effort for intangible benefits (retention... maybe) could also make sense.
There ya go. I'm out.

You ain't shut up in the 4 or so years that I've known you. Why should we expect you to start now.Originally posted by Tanker View PostOk, one more round of thoughts, then I'll shut up:
Sorry man, I couldn't resist that one.
How's life outside of EQ? You've been around a bit lately. Are you getting sentimental, or maybe a desire to return?
The only concern about your suggestion that I have, is that I don't want to do anything to make station exchange easier for EQ!!!

Off line trader mode would have made sense if it was implemented many years ago, back when most people were using dialup modems. But right now a majority of people are on high speed internet connection (cable, DSL, T1, satellite, etc) and wouldn't be tying up phone lines.
The only reason left is the electric bill but for extended AFK trader (ie vacation) I use my ancient laptop that draws about the same as a 25 watts bulb rather than my main destop PC that dims half of Michigan whenever I reboot it.
An used laptop that meets minimum requirement with all eye candy off and luclim model off should help cut the bill for afk traders.
So basically right now the only reason is for convience (ie need your PC for CPU intenstive or memory intensive tasks) or to play different games that don't play nice with EQ. Considering the spaghetti of codes that goes back over 8 years, it would be difficult to implement the off line trader mode without breaking something important.Grolyn Blacknife
