Hmmm...how about a new AA like "Curio Evaluation" that would work like the following:

      1) You would input a command like "/curio <ITEM LINK>".
      2) It would spit out a response of:
---a) The min, max, and average of bazaar listings, if the item is for sale.
---b) The vendor buy price or "Unable to tell", if the item is not for sale.
      3) It would have a reuse timer of 30 minutes to prevent taxing the server.

In this manner, someone isn't doing full-fledged query on the bazaar from another zone. They are restricted to a single item every 30 minutes. They aren't basically doing shopping while out and about...they are just being able to evaluate items they have.

You could further restrict the traffic by doing a check on the front end that the item is either tradable or attunable.

        Bazaar

I would be satisfied with a port to bazaar ,, bazaar gate potion,, something to get you there. of course if potions it would either have to be too expensive for us to buy, or people would buy em for cheap gates.. so just wishing

Touche' I conceed your point there, however this may be I also understand the resource hog it could be; however if people really want to see what prices are like on their server at any moment in time then they can subscribe to EQ Econ, this is almost real time info as they comprise theri info to several scans during the day of prices on each server.

I am sure that you could write a program to do so your self, which could be questionable with respect to the EULA or buy another account and like others have sugested leave up a permanent bazaar mule which is so-so as most wind up deciding to make a back up to their main so they can solo better and then still need or desire knowledge of what is going on in the bazaar.

Best senario is to find out if your server has a bazaar chat channel and join it this way people can converse back and forth but like all chat channels it consumes resources from your machine. Lets face it, EQ is getting laggier and laggier all the time to the point where mobs are ghosting people and people are ghosting mobs. Heck on my old machine which is not all that old I have to cut down all the resource consumption I can just to be able to play and even then it is tough.

Well, enough of that, back on subject now I feel that bazaar prices are way out of line on a lot of items, heck on the combine server I saw a Forlorn Bow going for 300 plat???!!!??? That is just plain rediculous but we traders also gouge people and I sell my stuff at a price I feel is just my cost plus 10% and I factor in the fails too to compensate for them...

Again I digress into another tangent...I think I shall stop my ramblings now and let it sit for time being... .

That actually reminds me. Does anyone know how or from where EQEcon gets its item and pricing info? I've been mulling over a couple of different projects, and that sort of info would be handy.

Not sure exactly unless they actually have several server boxes set up that constantly search thru numerically and alphabeticaly each and every item that could possibly be on the server at any time and dump the info to log files or parse the logs into their database.

BTW please excuse me earlier for not paraphrasing my earlier comment as "The Ravings Of a Lunatic"... Please regard any and all postings by me as such as I am not sure sometimes where my mind has wandered off to... This having been said if you should see such mind wondering around please put a bucket over it, do not under any circumstance should attemp to touch it or pick it up as I assure you it is rather slimy < this is how it slips out on me> and might rub off on you thereby infecting you and perhaps others with my malady of insanity...That is all...

I can't possibly imagine how they'd check prices on all items on all vendors on all the servers manually... and that pretty much implies some sort of Macroquest-type chicanery....

I may have been a bit glib to Strokker (whom I deeply respect for his posts and ahard work) so I /kneel. Server/client issues are genuine concerns and if it is prohbitive we can always /tell or join the bazaar-style channel for our server.

SCA-style complaints are less tolerable. We all wish to avoid anachronistic intrusions into the world of Norrath but who is to say this is not a future of our world? Perhaps this is a future of Earth where pangea has further seperated, we've elarned to live underground, have used advanced physics to penetrate alternate planes and even colonized the moon. (Today we can not TL/TP to another place, we can not easily levitate, we can not change to another race.)

If the objection is that it is a data issue that is unresolvable only for the purpose of making a player's play-time easier then I understand entirely. BUT, to say that it violates the "spirit" of things is harder to swallow.

But again, Strokk, no offence was intended. After I re-read my post it seemed abrupt and disrespectful. Neither were intended towards you.

I imagine that the price information is obtained through the item database (which has vendor value included as one of the fields). It is a very simple lookup (part of the same lookup as item name, stats, effects, etc that goes into the item display windows) that just looks up the vendor buy price (which I think is actually derived from the vendor sell price and a modifier that are in the record, but can't remember), which is otherwise not displayed.

Hi, tradeskilling Rogue here. I've got the Appraisal AA, and I think Xulan's explanation is a good guess about the way Appraisal appears to work, with a caveat. Appraisal does not give a straightforward answer, instead feeding back a range of inexact stock answers corresponding to vendor prices.

For example, Lock of Hair from a Chimera is a OoW quest item that sells for 1 cp. Appraisal gives this message: "This item appears to be worth a few copper."

The Appraisal message "This item appears to be worth a moderate amount of platinum" seems to cover anything from 2 pp to at least 45 pp, I'm still exploring the range of that.

Augmented items that would sell to vendors if the No Drop aug were removed can also be scanned.
Mrylokar's Breastplate augged with the No Drop Bluespotter Spore gives this Appraisal message: "This item appears to be worth a great amount of platinum."

Any purely No Drop item, as far as I know, generates the worth a few coppers message.
