  • Another trophy evolving/skillup question

Some background before the question: I've done a lot of tradeskills on my ranger with 365 wisdom and I'm used to how things work at that level. I recently started a shaman to try some alchemy. I got my trophy at 250 and continued doing combines. My shaman is only level 32 so she has a max wisdom of 255. Lately I've been making Distillate of Alacrity and Clarity IX (302 trivial) for skillups. My base skill is now 285 and my trophy has been at the master level since about 280. That seems unusual from the other posts on the board. Most folks seem to get to 300 a little before their trophy hits Master level.

My question is about why my skill is moving up far slower than the trophy evolved. Is it because her wisdom is only 255? Or do I just blame the RNG?

255 wisdom is definitely a sizeable penalty on a difficulty 4 skill like alchemy. But even with a high int/wis my personal tendancy has been that the trophy beats me. Many of the people that beat the trophy are probably working on cultural armor that has a skill up bonus.

    According to the advanced calculator:
Going from 250-300 using an 8% modifier on a 302 trivial alchemy combine would take 2020 combines at 255 wisdom but only 1385 combines at 365 wisdom. At 415 wisdom (the magic number for difficulty 4 skills) it would take 1212. At max wisdom of 465 that only drops to 1208.

Initially I misread your title/post -- I assumed you meant the trophy was lagging. While I would not have thought that the lower wisdom would have been a lower penalty, this is entirely to be expected, especially as you approach the 300 mark.

Still, with the 12% trophy, at least you'll have plenty of product for sale or use....

Trophy gains exp when you succeed at a combine

success and failure has nothing to do with Int/Wis, just skill

But it makes a difference on how you skill up, especially for a difficulty four trade-skill like alchemy.

So what is happening is you are succeeding a lot, but not gaining much skill along the way, therefore the trophy gained exp faster than you gained skill.

Thanks for the answers and skillup question

Thanks for the answers, that makes sense on the trophy experience.

I've been using a 302 trivial recipe to skill up. Playing with the advanced calculator it doesn't seem to make much difference on the estimated number of attempts if the trivial is 302, 319 or 348. Whatever trivial I use it estimates about 826 attempts to reach 300. Too bad I can't factor in that the RNG hates me. <grin>

That is easy to figure in.
Just multiply what ever figure the advanced calculator comes up with by 10,000 unless it is a tradeskill you don't care about then multiply by 1,000.

Oh, and of course, blame the RNG for this. It gets blamed for everything else.

                Well ... yeah. Duh.

You see, if we can't blame the RNG, then we have to work our way up the food chain and look for the folks who programmed it ... /evil grin

Much safer and less heartbreak all around to lay everything on the feet of the RNG. =)

I tend to do small runs on skill-up things. So I get the random skill-up here and there doing only a few combines. I've got too much patience for skilling up (combined with hating to try and farm a lot of components and/or spending a ton of plat for long runs)....

My Shaman's Alchemy trophy and my Tailoring and Fletching trophies seem(ed) to lag far behind my skill level (not catching up to the skill I've got until I do a run at a break-point level - e.g., Fletching trophy was at like 82% when I hit 300 skill then caught up quickly).

Would this be due to small runs? Does the progression of the trophy to the next percentage point reset every time you log out and/or close the combine container?

No. The trophy gains experience for every non-trivial combine that you successfully make. When it gains enough experience to reach the next % evolved, it goes up. Just like your AA bar. It sounds like you just had a good luck with skill-ups. Also, the fact that you mention that the trophy quickly catches up with you AFTER you hit the milestone skill levels (50/100/150/200/250/300) then it is showing that the trophy is actually WORKING right.
