Tailoring Trophy evolve question

Now if your INT/WIS/STR isn't maxed with trophy and it is with sword/shield that's another story, however just stick it in ranged so it can evolve and also give you the mod.

I think you mean stick it in the ammo slot (if they need the stats from PRI and SEC then they probably need the stats from the RANGE slot too). It will still provide it's tradeskill +% while in ammo slot and it will continue to evolve there as well (but you do not get any other stats from the trophy).
