  • Player who quit in 2004 looking for advice...

    Hi

I stopped playing EQ in 2004; now that some friends are taking it up again, I'm tempted to do so as well. I was quite heavily into tradeskills before but when I quit, the PoP tradeskill trophy thingy quest was not long introduced - only 6 months or so - and I think either the cap on skills was going up to 350, or had already gone up, one of the two. There was also massive disparity in skills; some were really easy to get to 300; others, much, much harder.

With this in mind, I was just wondering if there was any change in how skill-ups were handled in EQ, what the cap is now on tradeskills, and whether it's still really, really expensive to do? (We're starting afresh with new characters and as such I won't have tons of plat available as I used to with my old one back when I played an awful lot.)

Sorry if these are daft questions

Tradeskills now go to 300, including alchemy, poison crafting, tinkering, and spell research. As far as skilling up, look for the new tradeskill UI (makes things LOADS easier) and doing any Dragons of Norrath cultural combines in smithing tinkering or tailoring automatically gives 5% extra chance to skillup, 10% if they are GM combines- http://www.eqtraders.com/articles/ar...r=120030000000 to get you started.

Yes its still expensive to skill up, but if you have some plat then buyer mode is awesome- not to mention looking up items in the buyer window shows you all droppable items that have appeared on your server (for example that's how I know I've made the very first pieces of cultural armor for Barbarians and Drakkin).

Welcome back and I hope I didn't confuse you!

Only true for Master combines. Expert and Journeyman combines have no bonus.

However, in general, it's now pretty easy to get to 200 in most tradeskills, and not impossibly hard to hit the 220ish required for the Aid Grimel quest series.
