  • Tradeskill since Velious...

I was just pokeing around a bit yesterday evening and found this info Recipes. After looking at it a while I decided to do this little chart...

Not really sure why, it just kind of jumped out at me. But I did notice some odd trends.

Fishing has not had any new recipes since Kunark, and though Alchemy had a big revamp not long ago it and Make Poison are both pretty well down on the list. Bakeing is KING hands down with something new each and every expansion with Brewing and Tailoring tied for second place.

I am not sure what others might think, but I would like some input maybe it might help me see what my brain has yet to tell me here...

It can be a bit problematic using the "by era" section as a frame of reference for recipes. From what I can remember it wasn't added until PoP (maybe later, not really sure) so it is going to be missing some things. I can think of a few recipes off the top of my head, Blessed Fishing Pole, Elemental and Nightmare bows, geerlok devices.

It is curious to see the overall trends, I would be inclined to say that baking and brewing are relatively 'low impact' so adding recipes each expansion has little effect on the economy. But then you have tailoring and smithing close behind, both of which can have more of an effect. I'd guess early on it was done fairly randomly, and since Ngreth has started working on it things have been done to bring all of the tradeskills to a more even balance, but thats just my take on things .

Velious had velium jewlery, and also got some love with the implementation of blue diamonds and black saphires.

Tinkering had recipes in Velious (and the deluxe toolkit), Luclin (geerloks), PoP (a whole tinkering themed zone), and LoY(more geerloks). Tailoring had the Lemming fur Backpacks in LDoN. There were quite a few alchemy combines in LDoN and DoN at least(the evil foraged component combines) but all the old (now removed) recipes no longer show up, which is why you don't see any on the list. Pottery had quite a few combines in Luclin and dye vials in LoY.I'm also pretty sure there have been poison combines in a number of expansions, but that's the one tradeskill I have never done.
Many of the Luclin era combines came with the TS revamp that added the Solstice Earring quest rather than tied to an expansion launch, so they don't show up with an expansion.

Thanks folks, you really helped me here, I knew we had recipes in there from earlier expansions but was begining to think my mind had finally cracked. Still I would like to see a bit more in what appears to be neglected areas and I feel Ngreth is the best Ogre for the job...

Keep up the good work Ngreth.../grin

To make the list more accurate you should include all expansions (ie Kunark and TBS). Also this topic should be taken to the SoE boards if you want it to go beyond trade skill discussions.

As for the "neglected" poison / alchemy skills I feel very little sympathy for a market that has been cornered and still have a viable market (aka OoW Augments). (P.S. No, I do not upgrade the augs, yet, other projects have been holding my attention more than the shaman alt).

I agree with Gorse, don't feel bad for anyone who has had to do alchemy since Oow. My GM alchemist makes more money on my trader than my GM barbarian tailor/brewer. I would also add that its not just oow augs, I make a killing on Skinspikes X.

ya ask me i think ya should look at number ofrecipees over 300 that are viable skill up routes. then see what expansion that pice is from hehe.

oh and didnt tailoring get ribbonds in ldon ?
and im pretty sure brewing got a couple of recipees in PoP. since brewing seems to get recipees everytime smithing does.
Note: Due to a hand injury caused by a friend throwing a broken scissor into my hand my typing = crap. So dotn be so critical.

It is all a matter of time.

I just can't work on all 11 tradeskills every expansion.

And Frankly. Fishing is going to mostly stay dead, I would much rather work on the 11, and I see no need for more fishing poles and bait. And it also depends on how you think of it. I actually work on fishing every expansion... to make fish! And in the end... I don't see making fishing poles as a "fishing" skill. Maybe fly's but not fishing poles. If anything it is closer to fletching, which I am leaning towards a more general woodworking.

How about you let us fisherman be able to fish up raid gear from waters near raids wipes

I would agree that fishing is not something that needs anything really, it is not like you really skill it up like the other trades via farming and mucho plats.

That list is actually extremely incorrect.

PoP had new stuff for virtually EVERY tradeskill. Brewing saw the introduction of several recipies. Alchemy had a lot of new recipies. PoP also introduced and entire LINE of new proc-poisons, and the Nightmare Bows and Planar Fletching Kits and everything you can do with them. They also neglected to mention all the 'throwables' alchemy recipies from DoN...

this is just what I can come up with just off the top of my head. I'm certain there's more that I'm just too tired to go back and check.

Point is, don't believe everything you see. The graph on the web is less accurate than it may appear.
