  • "You can no longer advance..."

Today I made 200 celestial essence for my other trade skill.

I got reminded 200 times that I can't advance my skill on CE's

My baking is at 300 so obviously I can't advance anymore on CE (or anything for that matter)

So why do I need to be reminded 200 times?

WTB: an option to NOT display the reminder when the item's trivial is (for example) more than 25 below your base skill. Because as I get my smithing and tailoring skill to 300, I'm going to do a lot of sub-combines that have low trivial and I don't want to get reminded 10,000 times.

But the first time someone forgets they have it turned on they will be petitioning and bad mouthing SOE because they just did 10,000 combines without a single skill up.

I think its a remind that has to stay there. Better having too much info than not enough.

That is the kind of spam that doesn't really bother me.

BUT, what does bother me is that despite all of the "You can no longer advance..." messages, it is still possible to fail a combine that isn't 200 below your skill. If it is trivial, something that can be done without really even trying, I just can't see how it can fail.

I am sure this has already been belaboured in the past, and I am sure there are lots of RP reasons why this is possible (lapse in concentration, bad tools, etc etc), but the fact is, it's a PITA. When I start doing calculations for what to buy to make end product X, it is tiresome to factor in those random losses on trivial combines.

It was stated some time ago by Ngreth (wish I could find that post) that the use of the word "Trivial" for Tradeskills wasn't really because it was Trivial but rather there was a lack of a better word to use. Sure there are better words to use other then "Trivial" for something that will no longer be worth experience. At this time though it has been used for going on 8 years now and to change it wouldn't really accomplish anything.

The word "Trival" in the EQ tradeskill world means you can no longer advance your skill by making this item. It does not mean you can't fail. As been stated many times before even the best chefs in the world can burn toast once in awhile.

The best replacement I've heard so far for the term "trivial" is "difficulty". So a recipe may have a difficulty of 201, but that doesn't mean it's "trivial" with 250 skill, just not difficult. I kind of got the impression Ngreth would like to change it, just to end the debate if nothing else, but it's not a priority.

I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

I have a feeling that "difficulty" is used internally to denote the skill level at which you succeed 50% of the time - and the trivial is actually 33% more than that. (Taken from the form of the success rate formula).

That's actually not a problem. Developers are clever enough to use a word one way internally and another way externally. This happens depressingly often because we're trying to mirror the vocabulary of the users.

For instance, when the devs use the word "done" about an expansion...
