  • What to charge for preparing Celestial Essences?

I've recently made a friend on a new server (FV) and after being hired to gather some tradeskill items for him, he propositioned me to prepare some Celestial Essences.

Having never done anything like this before, what is a reasonable price for CE by the stack, assuming I go the Solvent & Scent of Marr route?

    Thanks for your input.

On povar, and other Normal servers, People sell in the bazaar for 5p each with some regularity.

If you wish to charge less due to friendship, that is your perogative.

    FV may be different.

It is a fairly easy combine... if he is a friend I'd probably charge 1pp each over cost or have him buy all the materials so you don't have to front it.

If you are making a few hundred for him, that is a decent amount of cash for not too much time.

That way you both win, he saves some time, you make some PP, and he might give you more work/pp/items if you make a friend out of it.

Then again if you hardly know him, go with Lilosh... someone has 500+ for 4pp each right now on my server, don't know what it would go for on FV.

        I don't even flinch paying 5pp each.

Ahh, one of the advantages of being on a new server (where prices are still high).

I put them up for 10PP each (if I get all the ingredients myself) while I'm a trader.

If someone asks me to do it, and they supplied me all the ingredients, I'd probably chatge 5PP.

I've sold as high as 7pp per in trader mode. I've seen them as high as 12, but I suspect those traders are actually just storing them for later use.

When I sell them I usually get 6pp each and they sell fairly quickly. I have seen them up for 10pp each but do not know how well they sell at that price. I think 5-6pp each is fair for your time and to help pay for the carpial tunnel syndrome you are giving yourself.

I can't help but think it strange that people pay so much more for these things when ANYONE can do them without ANY risk of failure.

One could say that people are lazy, but... this is everquest... surely by the time CEs are useful to anyone they've gotten used to the idea of click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-clicking to get things.

I might pay 7 or 10pp for a celestial essence, but only for a money-making recipe and never in bulk. If I'm going to do a half-dozen faithstone combines and sell successes at 2.5k each, an extra 30pp up front doesn't matter. A couple hundred star ruby steins that I'll only barely be able to break even on, on the other hand... Prices have to be down around 4pp before I'll consider buying them by the backpack full.

Lots of people still don't realize you can make the things in one building in PoK out of all storebought components, too.

Probably the same reason why people dish out 2-5PP for silk threads and 5-20PP for silk swatches on my server...

Wait till you combine 200+ of them each day as preparation for a combine...

If I had the money, I would pay people to make CE's Silk swatches/threads Leather Padding.

But since I am not amazingly rich, I do it myself.

                          Costs

I used to make these for sale, sold a couple hundred a day at 5 PP each.
I then started using them way too often and did not want to combine them everyday, so I changed my price to 50 PP each so that they would not sell, and believe it or not folks still buy them at that price. Granted they are only buying a couple at a time not the stacks of 20 like they used too.

                            What?

 People will pay for silk swatched? Maybe I should start combining all of the silks into threads and swatches before I sell them!

For 20 attempts at mistloe cutting sickles, it takes 180 CE's. CE's make up about half the combines needed. They are nothing but a time sink for me. I'll continue to buy them so long as the margins hold on sickles.
