  • Need some advice

I have got the tradeskill bug, bad and am having a blast doing them. A few quick questions for you all.

    1. I am at 287 on JC and want to get 300....I looked at the guide to 300 and it says to do the chains to 300. I believe I am better off buying Velium and vendor diving for Diamonds and Blue diamonds and doing those combines till they trivial out THEN going to the chains. My beliefe is that I will spend less money in the long run, am I correct??

    2. I have approx 260 silk swatches in the bank and tailoring is at 187 currently. When I work JC up to 300 and make chains, are the Solstice Robes a viable skill patch to use the chains on (and silks) or is this way too expensive?

I have a good amount of plat I have been saving for a long time, but it is not unlimited so I need to be somewhat frugal.

Thanks in advance and thank you all for such a great web site!!!!

    1. Probably better to do the Velium + diamond/Blue diamond combines at first, since you can at least sell back the end product for more than a tiny fraction of the cost.

    2. Yes, you can certainly still skill up this way, but keep in mind that the closer your skill gets to the 252 trivial on Solstice robes, the more you will succeed, which will use up more of the chains, which can be costly. If you want to use Solstice robes to skill up, you would be better off not making your own chains at all, but just vendor-diving for them (when players sell them to merchants, merchants sell them back at slightly under 25pp!! ...a much lower cost than what it costs to make them yourself!)

Also consider cutting OoW augments. These give a bonus chance for skill increases. Your skill is already high enough to achieve the capped success rate, so you'll succeed as often with them as anyone else. You can offer to do cuts for free and still come out ahead versus other recipes even if you donate the fine hydroabrasive. Or buy the best-priced uncut stones in Bazaar and resell them after cutting to recover your costs.

My husband did Black Sapphire Palladium combines to about 298. Then he did blue diamond velium combines to go to 300. Never bothered with the chains...too expensive. We would sell the Black Sapphire Palladium earrings in the bazaar for more than the cost of the combine. Just took me a few weeks to run through the stock. Of course, that was well over a year ago, and it's a lot harder to get scale ore en masse now.

If you go the palladium route, I recommend you only make the jewelry that has a market in the bazaar since it's got no vendor or tribute value. Things like Palladium Jacinth rings you can't give away.

Regarding your question on tailoring, it kind of depends on what other options you have available. As a gnome, I was able to make the culteral robes (ykesha) until around 235 - 240 skill with not that much trouble, and then I switched to velious leathers to take me to 252. After that I've mostly done symbol combines to be honest. Of course, you can do the solstice robes, but again I find these to be expensive.

          Hi )

I decided to do another tradeskill push over xmas (previously was 300 smithing 200 rest)

I was going to do chains from 282 and use them in tailoring too (having done robes previously when they first came out from 150-200). But decided i couldnt face the robes again heh, so carried on the diamond/blue diamond route, but its getting expensive to claw the last few (did 180 combines for 3 skillups earlier, now on 296). They sell back and that helps but bd prices in bazaar on FV are typically 350-500, so on a large run its still costly.

For tailoring im working on arctic wyvern at moment (till 252), then (being human) master DoN using shissar scales, with other velious furs as i can aquire them.
