  • Buying TS item and reselling at higher price

People keeps buying up my stock of Prismatic Dyes and were trying to resell at higher price. So I made some more. The same person bought the entire supply of 200 and relisted it at 20pp more.

I made yet another batch, this time 400 and put it at my usual price. Now he's getting nasty with me and threatened to report me for using hacks to make unlimited supply of prismatic dyes. /ignored the moron. I doubt the GM can do anything since all of the dyes were hand made.

There has to be a better way for the uneducated non TSer to know which items can turn profit and which can be manufactured in large quantity and not good for resellers.

As long as he's willing to buy them from you, I'd keep making them. My reply to him would have been "it takes a whole 10 minutes to make 200 you moron, so keep buying my stock, and I'll keep making more." Or to steal a catch phrase from about 10 years ago: "buy all you want, I'll make more."

He's trying to corner the market on the dyes, by forcing out the competition. The threat to report you was to try and force you to stop. What you should have done was /report and /petition him for harassment.

Anyway, keep making them. And if he switches to an alt to harass you again, then report him.

I'm sure he already knows it is a tradeskilled item that can be made in unlimited quantity, however he was probably counting on the fact that it takes a bit of effort to make more. (have to go to Gunthak since the components are only available there, and have to do 3 combines (mix up dye, fire the dye vial, then combine dye and vial)

Unfortunately for him, that lttle bit of effort doesn't seem to bother you

He probably thought you were using a macro program to make the combining less tedious, I don't think he was accusing you of duping.

Just proceed normally, you have nothing to worry about as the logs would show you combined them manually.

You might want to try matching his price, if customers will actually pay that price, you will pocket the extra 20pp per dye, not him.

Or just keep your current price, and let him buy you out until he runs out of cash, lol

I went through the same thing with my spell research.

I'd make a spell like Hand of Virute, which cost me 8k to make, and sell it for 12k.

Some guy would buy it and mark it up to 20k. So he's trying to make 8k profit for nothing, while I made 4k profit off my hard work.

So I'd go make another one. And he would buy it.

So I'd go make 2 more, and this time raise the price up to 15k.

This went on for quite awhile. He kept buying my stuff and jacking up prices, so I kept making more of the spells and priced below him.

In the end I'm sure he made money, but he had to sell his copies when my trader wasn't around.

A guaranteed buyer? Whoo hoo! I figure if people are willing to accept the risk that comes with trying for a higher price, that's their affair. If he's doing so without educating himself sufficiently about the risk, well, lucky you! Once somebody gets rude I lose all interest in trying to give them a helpful tip. You have nothing to fear from the GMs as long as you made yours honestly.

Petition system is uselessly broken since Sony changed it. Instead of in game petition box, you now have to load the browser (and risk EQ crashing) to go through the web site help system. I've tried the bit and could never find anything to submit to go with the report and I don't think anyone pays attention to /report that doesn't have a completed petition with it.

The convoluted system is probably why I've seen a big increase in blatant plat sellers online in /ooc, /tells, etc. They are counting on people not filing the petitions because of SOE's boneheaded system change.

Yea, I saw three of those plat buying tells in the last two days, so I went the extra effort to /report /peti.....

              Very bad for the game.

                Let Them Buy

Aye, you get 'speculators' trying to corner the market all the time (though trying to 'corner the market' on a storebought recipe sounds a bit daft). People are free to speculate. Sometimes you make money, and sometimes - like he likely will find - you don't.

Just shake it off - it's not your issue if he doesn't understand the 'supply' side of supply and demand for the commodity he wants to trade in, especially a store-bought one.

Just keep making them to help teach him some basic economics.

Reselling tradeskill combines is a risky business, because you never know when you will find someone who is willing to do hundreds of combines. I prefer "value enhanced" reselling. That is, I buy components, do a combine, and sell the product. This way I am not competing with the people I am buying from. And you can always find someone who is willing to pay a bit more to have one or two less combines. The prime example of this that has been around forever is leather padding.

Basicly I see 3 reasons folks buy TS items in the Bazaar: time/convience, scarcity/inability to access zone, combine is beyond their skill.

Those are the factors I think about when I price items for sale in the Bazaar. Some items I sell low to get folks to click on my trader, some I play match the best Bazaar price on, others I won't drop the price a single copper on.
