  • Frostfell Fishing and Baking Quests

Anyone have any more information on these quests from the velium chef in PoK? I've been sitting in Dagnor's Cauldron for an hour waiting for it to rain so I could catch one particular species, just wondering if it's worth it.

I caught my Dagnor fish under sunny skies, and had no lamp for my Cazic Angler fish.

The fishing tasks are pretty straighforward just the fish are a bit rare even with 200 skill, especially the everfrost trout. One thing to remember is after you get the task to say 'rare' to Hargar to get a book with clues where to find the fish. The fish are tradeable but I have yet to see a market develop for them. It may be coming soon though.

The baking tasks require a few dropped and foraged parts but nothing too hard to get. Fruits, berries, chunks of meat, eggs and brownie parts (from my ever dwindling stock). You will also need a muffin tin, a pie tin and an animal shaped cookie cutter if you don't already have them.

Most of the recipes yeild more than one so you don't need as much as it may seem at first.

You can buy the loaves of bread on the other side of the vendor building in PoK so don't waste your time unless you want to. All the finished items are tradeable so you don't need to bake them yourself if you lack the skills.

One more thing, the reward for the fishing task is the bait summoning device we've always wanted. Summons 20 per click (with a 15 minute recast delay which is a bit much but still not the end of the world) 1% mod baits.

Yeesh, kind of mean to make folks sit for 4+ hours clicking the Fishing button during the holidays. Maybe somebody misplaced a decimal point in the database.

And I think they should drop the recast time on the bucket to 5 minutes, so people will be able to fish nonstop instead of having to wait for the timer to refresh.

Oh, I heard the odds improve if you buy a Nest Lantern from Maryg the Fisher near the big hole in the ice.

I dunno, I wish I had four hours in RL to sit around fishing with friends during the holidays. Sounds mighty fine. As it is, I get the occasional 10 minute run at the fishing pond in-game between daily duties.

All of the other fish (notable exception being the Everfrost Trout) took a matter of minutes to get, in fact it was 5 casts in Dagnor's to get the 4 there - 10 casts in Feerroot - 14 casts in High Hold Pass and 10 casts in Lake Rathe. However it was over 400 casts in Everfrost to get the fish from there!! Either that was designed as the bottleneck for this quest or there is something definitely wrong

                  Everfrost trout problem solved

Okay...there's a bug with the Everfrost Trout (as I'm sure you've all noticed). The issue is that the Nest Lantern that the NPC sells doesn't perform as advertised. The good news is, the standard "small lantern" that's available at vendors all over Norrath DOES do the job. With Nest Lantern: 22 stacks of bait=3 Trout. With small lantern pass 1: 2 stacks=7 trout. With small lantern pass 2: 4 stacks=14 trout.

Oh, and on Dagnor's: Don't worry about whether it's raining. I caught 3 of my 4 with clear skies. Think I used a total of 2 stacks of bait.

In Lake Rathe, I found best place to stand was right at the base of the aviak monument.

In Feerott, I stood on the south end of the west bank of the west fork of the river, facing the temple. Took maybe 15 casts to get my 4 fish.

In Highpass, think I went thru 4 stacks of bait to get my 4 fish.

In Everfrost...well, you see the story above. And I've caught trout both at the ice hole near the vendor who sells the lanterns that don't work, as well as in the mouth of the underwater cave. Just get a small lantern instead of the nest lantern, and you'll be golden.
