  • Trade skilling decent No Drop Items

With the amount of effort that goes into getting tradeskills to get to around 300 it seems funny that there is little reward for doing so.

The recent Artisan Charms are a good start but it would be nice if each tradeskill got the chance to create a personal semi uber "No Drop" item. And by semi uber I mean better than drops which can obtained by a group.

If for example you needed a minimum 280 skill unmodified to make the attempt and each tradeskill was able to accomidate one slot. EG Pottery = head, Tailoring = leg, Smithing = chest, JC = neck, Fletching = shoulders, brewing = arms and so on.

I shudder to think of a concoction one would brew to wear ... as armor. To dye one's skin I can see, but unless you're a Drakkin, or one of a few Barbarians, odds are you don't have tattoos.

Nah ... I don't see anything like that being worth doing, but I could see a bunch of combines using different tradeskills to first craft then improve upon a piece.

Say, smithing special studs (or clasps or whatever) and then tailoring them onto a special piece of leather to make a wristband or necklace ... using pottery to make something else you'd add on, fletching and jewelcrafting to make more pieces to add on, etc. Brewing could be used to make the special tannin needed for the combine with the leather, etc. Not talking about making augs, but something worth wearing that can fail (causing you to go back to square one) and requires 300 unmodded skill to attempt.

With skills like brewing and baking you need to think a bit outside the square. I envisage some thing along the line of taking something reasonably easily smithed or tailored and treating it with a rather potent brew to make the end item. A particular skill does not need to be involved in the final combine but can be used in a high level subcombine instead.

Using this kind of idea you could also expand it to Research, Alchemy, fishing and Poison Making. Rune scribed Armor anyone!

So kinda like the Coldain prayer Shawl, and then the Grimmel Earing....?

I think are charms are pretty awsome at the moment and the trophies were also a great addition to the tradeskillers overstuffed backpacks!

I do think we have been rewarded pretty darn well at the moment.

However, I would like to see another prayer shawl type quest implemented, maybe in the next expansion.

I think you might be getting the wrong idea about tradeskills, (or maybe its just my idea), but I dont belive that tradeskills should be something that you are 'Rewarded' for... its more of something you choose to do to roleplay, or better your character and be able to see the this side of the game. Rather than powering through all tradeskills and expect the eq gods to come down and give you an Uber_Item_004.

Your reward is being 300 in that skill. Thats what you were doing all that work for wasent it?

Plenty of tradeskills have made plenty of PP for folks:

Don culturial was a boon to tradeskillers.
Research is definately a money maker now.
As stated AAAA was tinkerers winfall.

Heck wayyyyyyyyyyyyy back when I made a killing on studded and reinforced acrylia armor.

How much PP did folks make off the Earring of the Solstice items?

Almost every expansion has it's "items" that tradeskillers make pp off of.

Heck almost every tradeskill got a huge money making boast out of PoP.
Can you say Stonewood bows 100k+ each.

OOW made jewelers, posion makers and alchemist jump for joy with the new augs that came into existence.

Tradeskills are a PP maker for sure. Does it take alot of work to make it so, YES but don't say there is no money in tradeskilling cause that is wrong PERIOD.

The reason I posted it as being "No drop" is so that it is not a money making scheme. More of a way to allow people who choose to tradeskill instead of raid a way of personally improving their eqipment. If the items happened to also benifit those tradeskillers among us that also raid then that would be a bonus.

What you put in you get out... even with tradeskills. If the plat is what you are all about then that is how you measure sucess. Just understand that most of the "hardcore" folks who tradeskill only look at plat as a tool to further their addiction... errrr ... habit... ahhh.. you know what I mean.

                          I was kinda joking

But, I still dont belive that I have yet made more money than I have sank into my tradeskills.

I do fondly remember when luclin first came out, I was one of very few tailors on the VZ server at that time. Made a bundle off the acrylia cloak... It had like 10wis which was unheard of on a single item at that time. Everyone wanted them, and payed very well.

If you have not yet made back the money you sank into tradeskills, my question is WHERE did all the money that you sank into tradeskills come from? Wasn't most of it from your finished tradeskill products? So in essence the money you sank into tradeskills was made from tradeskills meaning that you have probably made all the money you ever sank into tradeskills doing tradeskills.

I know that tradeskills have financed all my tradeskill expenditures + twinked out about 20 chars(3 accounts) + left me a little in the bank.

Personally as much effort you have to put into tradeskills i too would love to see homemade gear on a par with some of the uber gear out there mayhaps with lower beginning stats but with several aug slots like Don Cultural. I know EQ is it seems geared towards the High End Raider and such and all the really nice and choice items are for them. All they really do though is put in time to get flags with others help and go on raids and have great luck on rolls or attend enough to get massive DKP and have first choice on choice items. Tradeskillers spend countless hours pouring over information and spend tons of plat to make subcombines and combines and get really very little reward aside from satisfaction that they have accomplished something on their own mostly. There are getting to be some really nice items but the game is loaded with outdated and out moded loot thet most now adays just destroy rather than carry to a vendor. It will take a major revamping of things and loot tables to really make things better in this regards but player made items lag back in amongst all this trash items. Maybe someday we will get out of the early years of EQ when such items were uber. I have long thought that this is why player base is not really up where this game could be IMHO. Oh well off my soap box...again.../grin.
