  • 2? vendor diving and tribute as a skillup enhancement

    as stated ..2 questions

    1) does vendor diving still exist or do they now display all they have... ie i have to sell it something to see if it shows...and buy some that it has 1 of to dig down and see if what i want is really there?

    2) do folks use tribute based cap increases to improve skillups?

    thanks.

    1) It is still all vendor diving... merchants can have 80 items for sale, if they have those 80 items anything else sold to them is lost, the computers don't keep any records (e.x. someone sells a BD to a vendor as item 81, it just ceases to exist) so if you buy things from them nothing new will appear unless you or someone else sells an item to them that you do not have in inventory.

    2) Not 100% sure on this, but I think some people use tribute for skillups at lower level, at higher level tho there's a lower return on investment, there is a calculator on the main page that will tell you your chance of skillup based on your int/wis(dex/str depending on skill), from what I remember it becomes an issue of diminishing returns.. 100 vs 200 is huge, 300 vs 350 not so much

One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will,
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yeild.

      2) Yes is the simple answer. Raising stats beyond the cap can make sense but depends on the tradeskill you're talking about.

My personal take: Check your chance for a skill-up using the calculator.
      • If higher stats increase the chance of a skill-up on success, go for it.
      • If higher stats increase the chance of a skill-up on failures only, check the increased chance and decide if it's worth it for you.
      • If higher stats have no influence on the chances of a skill-up, well then it's a no brainer.

One sidenote here, Once your Wis/Int/Extra Stat is 400 or greater there is no Tradeskill benefit from raising it (according to the Calculator)

That's only true for a tradeskill with a Y value of 2 and a secondary skill (Smithing). The value at which is no longer helps at all is the Y value * 200 (+15 if no secondary skill). Note, however, that the returns at those high levels would be minimal (I say "would be" because values like 600 and 800 aren't reachable.)

Well that was beyond my knowledge.

The skill is question is Tailoring and the relevant stat is Wisdom ... 415 or 425 wth tribute. The tribute isn't a signicant cost but if it has no value then its not worth any effort.

hmmm, I just used the calculator and it showed there is no improved chance for skill up on smithing with high strength.

Folks have been doing smithing in Guild hall to hold the Ancestrial Favor buff.. with that and the full buff line and even tribute you can get your strength to 608 ish.. the calculator showed no improvement in chance of skill up from 400 to 600.

That is correct. For smithing (y value 2, str secondary stat), the max stat value that still increases chances is 400. For tailoring (y value 2, no secondary stat) it is 415 (making tribute worthless to you). At the other extreme: Jewelcrafting (y value 4, no secondary stat) needs 815 to max.

It is actually possible to pass 600 for dex and str now (dex being the only one that matters for this discussion)
                  255 base
                  +75 leveling from 61-75
                  +75 from stat cap AA's
                  +10 from DoN tier 1
+95 from Dire focus Rk. III
+105 from third tier of Ancestal Favor (Shaman AA HoT)
                  +10 from stat cap tribute
                  ---------------
                  625 dex
