  • easier to get 260 in smithin or tailoring?

I'm trying to get either tailoring or smithin to 260 (approx) anyone have advise on which one is easier without too much farming? Money not too much of a problem to get there, time a big problem

    thanks

If money really isn't an option, I think it is pretty much a toss up. It might depend on what cultural options you have too (DoN/BD are better for some races than for others) but there are nice options for both to get you up there.

Smithing has Magnetic, Bazu, Tae Ew, BD Cultural for some, DoN Cultural (Armor and Augs) and Sickles to name a few

Tailoring has Feran, Murkglider, BD Cultural for some, DoN Cultural (Armor and Augs), Othmir, Holgresh, Arctic Wyvern and Cobalt Drakes (though the last two max at 252)

If you can imbue emeralds, smithing has the advantage of being 'store bought' with the sickles... so you don't have to go searching the bazaar for stuff. They also come in at ~340p per combine if I recall correctly, but the subcombines can get tedious. If your bazaar has a good supply of Wyvern and Drake hides (and the fishes/oils to go with them, or you're willing to fish for a while) I might lean towards that route... I recall tailoring being relatively easy to get to ~255 before it started getting really rough.

Check the bazaar on your server. If Steppes Ore is in abundant supply, this supply is not gonna dry up soon since it means that's where your server is exping atm. Any other bazaar bought component has the possibility of drying up before you get to the 260s.

Steppes Ore gets you to 262 smithing with easy subcombines. Before that, Enchanted Velium Bits will get you to 222.

So quickest route from 200-262 smithing when money is not a problem:
        (1) Buy all Block/Large Brick/Small Brick/Small Piece of Velium in bazaar - for Enchanted Velium Bits
        (2) Buy all Steppes Ore in bazaar - for Smith Ceramic Clay
        (3) When bazaar runs out of supply and you don't want to wait, start doing Mistletoe Cutting Sickles

Tailoring *cannot* be done in a day. Smithing can be. (This is assuming you have a Chanter to Enchant Clay, a Cleric/Druid to Imbue Emeralds and 100ish skill in pottery and brewing.)

As a reference, it took me only 200 Steppes Ore to get from 246 to 262 smithing.

The tailoring equivalent of Steppes Ore is Wasp Spider Silk. I've never seen Wasp Spider Silk in abundant supply in bazaar. But you may want to check it as well since it varies from server to server.

Do remember that tailoring does not give you something like Mistletoe Cutting Sickle to fall back on. So smithing is still at an advantage.

Pretty much what they said. If you're a Shissar Scale person tailoring is, if you're not, I'd say Smithing.

I'm trying to do this with a gnome chanter so magical bits not hard at all, and a druid who can enchant emeralds (if I remember well) and brewing not a problem. I will look into all options.

              Thanks so much for help

While not as easy as shissar scales (nothing is), Nightmare Arachnid Silk is fairly plentiful, so tailoring is not bad for gnomes. Corathus Entrails are another fairly easy tailoring path to 252(with a pretty good sell back). Sporali skin is fairly common now, so you can prepare those to 276 if you farm witheran bile.

If money really isn't a problem you can do Inferno Scepters (all parts sold on merchant) but your talking quad digets per combine:-P

For FYI, there is a quest that yeilds an augment that has 50/50/50 HP/END/mana and Mana Preservation VI. The parts for the quest drop from the gnolls in the steps (read: the ones that drop the ore). That's the major reason for the abundance of he ore.

In my experience it drops about the same rate, but there are lots more gnolls and lots and lots of people killing them right now.

Oooo.. thank you for that suggestion, I was getting tired of getting yttrium for my gnome (and not being able to use it to advance his tinker trophy )

yups correct and i should have explained that when I work on 2 tradeskills to a certain lvl I do first both to 200 and then the 200 to.....
So once smithing hits 200 I will get tailoring to 200 and then do last stretch for 200 to 260

I find that less frustrating and boring LOL
