  • Geerlok FAQ item: Geerloks vs PoR trophies

I'm not sure where to submit updates to the FAQ pages, so I'm opening this thread here.

On the Geerlok FAQ page, the last question is about other skill-enhancing items. The answer should be expanded to mention the PoR trophies. (The answer does mention trophies, but it's clearly referring to the old player-made ones.)

The tradeoff between geerloks and the PoR trophies is actually an interesting choice sometimes, assuming you already have at least one trophy for summoning bags. If you're not planning to go past 200 in a skill, the geerlok adds more skill, at the cost of perhaps lowering your skillup stat due to taking up the primary slot. But if you might eventually push the tradeskill higher, then you definitely want to get the PoR trophy at a lower level when the task requirements are easier.

I chose to get all the PoR trophies for my primary tradeskiller, but am using a geerlok for pottery when making various of the new single-tradeskill charms on other characters.

At 200 skill the geerlok and the tradeskill trophy are the same (+5%). If your PoR trophy isn't at level 4 before you get to 200, it is still easy to run it up (it will only take a few combines). In fact you can run the PoR trophy up to level 5 with 200 skill. Giving you a +8%. I have done this with several trophies with cheap recipes in the low 200s, and I even did it for my smithing trophy before I spent the AAs to start running up smithing (velium is easy to farm and I don't mind spending a little plat on fast combines).

Othewise, I still agree with your arguement and something should be added to that section concerning this discussion.

Ah yes, I'd overlooked that you could push the trophy to +8%. I was figuring that the geerlok's +5% was better than the trophy the whole time you're skilling up to 200, and no better at 200. But yes, if you're willing to take the time to evolve the trophy further even though your skill is pegged at 200, the resulting effective skill of 216 is noticeably better than 210.
