  • Taanan Containers in Guild Hall?

I take it the only Taanan Containers are in PoK? If so, any chance of upgrading the GH ones?

Tried to find if this question was already asked via search, but couldn't find anything. So sorry if this has already been addressed.

    No.

    ...

Ok, lets make that... Of course there is a "chance". But there are absolutely no plans to do so. As it is, I have plans to NOT do so.

The Taanan containers will continue to only be in Plane of Knowledge.

The flip side of the coin is that, in discussions with Maddoc and Ngreth at the last Fan Faire, they were open to the idea of making most Tanaan recipes work in normal containers as well. Ngreth was emphatic that quest combines like the Aid Grimel ones would continue to require Tanaan/Planar containers, but in general, he wasn't against making other items (like most planar armors and planar totems, for example) combinable in normal containers. Note that he said he'd consider it, not that he would do it. Given how much is on Ngreth's plate now, I'm pretty sure it's a low priority for him.

If its so neccessary that tanaan containers be only in PoK, then why do collapsibles count as tanaan???

Maybe cause collapsible thingies are part of the pop expansion as well.

Making pop stuff requiring pop containers makes sense to me. Nowerdays however, pok is available to everyone and some of the pop combines are now subcombines of non-pop combines and needing tanaan containers is nothing more than a nuissance imo

And the Tannan Containers used to be No-Drop.

And yeah. It is on my list to make tannan not required for a bunch of the recipes, I just have not gotten the time to slot it in and have made a few other things higher priority.

Yep, and in 3 more expansions I can see folks clamoring that the cultural forges for the DoN smithing are too far away and inconvieniently placed; why couldn't they have put them all in PoK or somewhere more convienient.

The Taanan forges are a small inconvience sure, but I realy think there are more "bang for the buck" things to be done to enhance tradeskills.

Just a bit of historical trivial here. =) The portable Tanaan containers were always tradable, except the Planar Fletching Kit. Players always regarded the fletching kit as an anomaly, and I remember many questions about why it was no-drop when the rest were tradable.

The collapsible kits were introduced some time after PoP; I don't recall the exact date. I remember the tradeskill dev at the time (was it Maddoc? Or the gentleman before him?) commenting that he made them usable for Tanaan combines to make them more attractive; at the time, PoP tradeskilling was still the high end, and people loved that one collapsible item could do both normal combines and PoP combines.

Historically, the containers were designed to tie the player to PoP. PoK was not open to all; it was a PoP-required zone. Stationary Tanaan containers ensured that the player would have to own PoP to make those items. I believe the containers may have been intended to be no-drop for the same reason. However, the restriction was weakened by the tradable containers and later the collapsible ones; and now that PoP is a free zone for everyone, the restriction makes a lot less sense.
