  • Single Tradeskill

I have always loved tradeskills, and want to eventually get them all to 300. I have saved up enough money I think I can probably get one of the harders ones (JC, tailor etc.). So which one of the tradeskills should I level up to 300, to gain money with, to fund my other tradeskills?

Quick run down. Not concrete, just my experience in the past 7 years of EQ.

Smithing - Expensive to max but pretty lucrative throughout an expansion.
Tailoring - Expensive to max and also lucrative throughout.
Jewelcrafting - Expensive plat sink, easy to raise because most of it can be vendor bought. Lots of JCs out there too.
Fletching - Another plat sink. Flechting is lucrative to those that discover and produce the first bows on the server. In the beginning very good money is made but it quickly drops off.
Baking - Cheep and easy to raise esp if you can forage. While not the biggest money maker you will see a small and steady stream of plat come your way if you frequent the trader mode in the bazaar.
Brewing - Same as baking, cheep and easy to raise.
Pottery - Moderate to expensive in the high levels. Very little saleability in pottery atm. Unless there are secrets i dont know about.

These are all the ones i have experience in, I dont do Research, Alchemy, Poison Making, or Tinkering. But I'm sure some wonder people in those diciplines will chime in.

I would say JC is pretty easy! If you can get your hands on a chanter to Enchant the Metal then the sell back on the items nearly covers your cost.

It was a long while since i went up to 250 on JC so I cant really remember what it cost me, but I have a feeling it was around 10k to 250. (with enchanted metals)

Currently doing the 250-300 run at the moment.

When you are starting a new tradeskill from scratch, what you are looking for is a tradeskill that you *speculate* will be getting attention soon.

If you ask me what's my speculation, I'll say tailoring. Sooner or later, tailoring will be getting a revamp for skill above 252.

So if you have the funds to get to 252 tailoring, go tailoring and be on the standby so that you'll be ready for the next tradeskill wave.

Lol, I think I might be biased, but I think alchemy is the best tradeskill. Granted you have to be a shaman to do alchemy. I think it is awesome because I can sell little stuff like sow potions or skinspikes or healing potions or I can just use them on my alts. (Pretty cool having a 20 monk able to solo four or five reds in NL with skinspikes on.) The OOW augs used to sell ok, but since the new expansion came out, it's hard to just give them away at cost. Alchemy used to somewhat fund itself, but seems a little less of a money maker these days. Definetly a fun tradeskill though because pretty much everyone uses some kind of potion now.

Depending on race smithing or tailoring gives you cultural armor to sell. The market has cooled but there is still a slow steady profit to be made in that area.

When asking question helps to give your class-race-server as different classes excel at certain tradeskills easier then others. If you are a forager maybe brewing or baking would be better. If your race has only leather armor but has both chain and plate maybe smithing would be better(more classes to sell cultural armor to) vs. tailoring.

Ok, here's some more info. I'm on Saryrn, playing an iksar, monk. The alchemy ideas.. I have a 295(soon 300) alchemist hehe, just not enough money coming in from there, one of the reasons I thought about doing the OoW augs if they could profit well enough.. I just don't know if they could. Cultural was going good on my server, some of this new armour from TSS has knocked it down a little, but it all sells, just for about 2-3k over the cost of a hide or scales, whereas it was about 5-30k over most of the time.

Best moneymaker for Alchemy is going to be your Clarity X potions. Get your farmer to OS or your forager to DL and start collecting stacks of Nodding Blue Lillies. You'll need a LOT of them.

Price them competitively, and you'll make a tidy profit to spend elsewhere.

Other good money makers are: Skinspikes VI (the last one that is all vendor-sold ingredients), SoW V, HoT X, and Stamina X (increased stamina cap).

If you can get a steady supply of Powder of Ro, then you can probably do very well with selling alchemy in the Bazaar to fund your other projects.

As for other tradeskills... Baking/Brewing are my two favorites. Not a whole lot of plat per transfer, mind you, but they tend to buy in volume when they do buy, and there's a constant supply due to consumption. They're also both easy to level up without spending too much time and plat.
