  • Imbuing and OOC Mana regen

Wanted to see if anybody else was having this problem before i posted to the EQ Boards.

While imbuing emeralds I'm noticing that OOC regen doesn't seem to be updating properly. With 2175 mana (ya it's a twink mule) I should be able to use mass imbue emerald three times (600 mana cost). However I'm seeing that the majority of the time my first cast actually is using close to 1k mana vs the normal cast of 600 mana. Now if I sit beyond getting to full mana for some time, the initial cast is the normal amount. And even when it shows that my mana # has hit 600+, and it'll show that number when I stand, but when I go to cast, it'll say insufficient mana, and suddenly my mana # is below 600.

To me it seems like the mana bar might show one thing but somewhere it's not updating properly.

So anybody else running into this sort of problem?

Not sure if it's the same problem, but I have had a problem casting a spell when I have the exact amount of mana I need or just a little bit more. I get the message "Insufficient mana" and my mana drops several points below what I needed, without fizzling. Not sure if it's a bug or intended. Also, sometimes it doesn't happen, like when I try to show my hubby (who thinks I'm imagining it lol).

I believe that it's the SOE server and the client on your computer that are slightly out of synch.

I've noticed this happening for a long time, and not just with the imbue spells. I have to agree with Maev on this one. If you watch your mana (and hp also) closely, you will see it jump up, then back down every once in a while. Sometimes when you go to cast a spell, your UI will show you having enough mana, but it is just one of those times when the client and the server don't match. The client will allow you to start casting, but the server sees that you don't actually have enough mana to cast it, and then corrects the client, making it look like it cost you mana.

Any mana savings are applied after the check for sufficient mana for the spell. So, what could be happening is that even though you know the actual mana cost of the spell to you, you may not have enough mana for the real listed cost of the spell. You will receive the insufficient mana message even though technically you have enough if your mana preservation had been counted.

Thats not the problem. Mana Pres is applied after you start casting the spell. IE - if you have 800 mana left, and try to cast a 600 mana spell with 10 percent MP, it'll check that you have 600 mana first. Seeing that you do, it'll start casting the spell, and do the random 0-10 to see what percentage of mana gets deducted from the cost of the spell, leaving the caster with anywhere from 200 to 260 mana left.

I've noticed, especially if I try to cast a spell right after gaining the mana for it that I'll get the insufficient mana message. I'd wait one more tick if thats whats going on. EX - 590 mana atm, trying to cast 600 mana spell ... medding getting 30 mana per tick, only getting 9 mana per tick standing. Tick comes along, get the 30 mana to 620, stand to cast the spell, and get knocked back to 599 because I stood up too fast. Waiting the extra tick (to 650 mana in this example) will ensure that you have the mana.

My advice would be to cast on a horseback. Deals with the "wasted mana by standing and casting" problem.
