Focus Effects?

Is there a good discussion on the new Focus Effects running anywhere?

I went to look up the effect on the Ceramic Rod of Storms ( Anger of E'Ci ) and the only description I could find was from EQMaps. Which was a good technical description... but didn't actually tell me anything about how the thing works :P

You can go here for a good guide to focus effects.

But a better way when you know the name of the effect is to type it in the search of lucy.fnord.net in the spell search box on the left. Entering 'Anger of E'ci' you'll get:

1: Increase Spell Damage by 23%
2: Limit: Max Level(65)
3: Limit: Effect(Hitpoints allowed)
4: Limit: Instant spells only
5: Limit: Spell Type(Detrimental only)
6: Limit: Target(AE PC v1 excluded)
7: Limit: Target(PB AE excluded)
8: Limit: Target(Targeted AE excluded)
9: Limit: Target(Uber Giants excluded)
10: Limit: Target(Uber Dragons excluded)
11: Limit: Resist(Cold allowed)

So you know it's a +23% to cold nukes up to level 65. It won't work for AEs (ae excluded), it won't work for bane (uber excluded), it won't work for dots (instant spells only), it only works for detrimental hit points (ie, a nuke), and it only works for cold.

Keep in mind lucy.fnord.net doesn't always show the whole story. For instance, we all know the improve damage focii are random 1-x%, but it doesn't indicate it anywhere here. But it certainly shows the most accurate picture of effects we're able to get.

That's pretty much what EQMaps said too... but with one difference:

3: Restriction: Only applies to 'Hit Points (HP)' spells

Which could make a BIG difference. I guess what I'm wondering is, when you cast a spell, what's an exaample of a spell it actually DOES effect, and what effect does it have?

Spells like ice spear of solist, or the beastlord/shaman line of cold based nukes.

If it says HP's, it means damage or heals.

If for instance Anger of E'ci didn't have slot 3 and 4 (limit: Hp only, limit: instant only):

1: Increase Spell Damage by 23%

It would glow for both moonfire and e'ci's frosty breath. While it wouldn't do anything for e'ci's frosty breath, it would still glow and cause no end of submissions to dev corner saying anger of e'ci is broken. Or worse, people would believe it was an aggro reduction effect like some still believe the mage earring to be (which it's not).

Btw I checked the first link in my above reply. It's outdated already. The 100% focii were changed in a recent patch to affect higher level spells. So it's still best to go to lucy.fnord.net.
